I thought Attila and the Age of Charlemagne DLC found a fairly happy medium between artistic and informative, despite so many of the units in that period looking basically the same.
I just hope there's enough unit variety in ToB in the first place though. It's hard to come back from Warhammer to having a couple variations of spear/sword infantry, a few archers and a few cavalry make up nearly your entire roster.

The cutscenes seen so far play for events/realm choices, and they're of the same blended art style.
