What defines a Fyrd?
Playing as West Seaxe and am wondering, what exactly defines a Fyrd? So I know whether to recruit them or not. Will they say "Levy Spearmen"
What are the signs to look for? Thanks

I think it's any unit aside from all the Thegn variants, the Huscarls and the higher tier cavalry.
From what I can tell, Units listed as Levy Spearmen/Axemen etc count towards your Fyrd soft-cap while Regulars and Elites do not.

Its a bit of an odd system, I guess its to stop the English factions, who start off pretty wealthy, from just spamming levies.
Thanks!

You can see if they're retinue units or levy units at the top of the recruitement tab in their description. Fyrd are freemen that have the right to take arms, and they're considered as levy and not actual formally trained soldiers.
