How to use warhounds/wolf hounds?
I get the hound type units whenever they're up because I really like the gimmic, but I can't quite put my finger on the right time and place to use them in battles. So far I've been sending them after ranged units like a slightly weaker cavelry you can only order once. Their lower stats make me think twice about sending them into massed infantry, though.
Should I be trying to get flanks with them? Holding an enemy for another unit to charge? Throwing them an the enemy first thing for the moralle damage? There must be something I'm not getting.

Yea I have always found them to be tricky to use correctly in all Total Wars. But mattimeo is correct flanking, hitting weak units like skirmisher in fact I think they could be darn usefull in this game for once. :)

Hearty thanks. Mattimeo78 is often correct, as he is doing many thinking before the post comment. :)
In earlier games where enemies put their skirmishers infront of their infantry line, having a couple units of dogs you can unleash was an easy way of catching them before they could run back behind their infantry, And held up the enemy infantry long enough for your own to charge into their mess of a formation, all the while being pelted by your own skirmishers. Keep their handlers back and alive and boom fresh dogs the next battle.

I never liked using them for anti cav tactics they didn't cause as much damage as I liked.

in most total war games they are used to destroy skirmishers and lock down cav, in Rome II they were excellent and countering pikes and ambushing hvy units in the flanks and back in britannia they do really well at tearing up a shield wall from the back like a furball hammer & anvil tactic forcing them to break the wall to deal with them or eat the loss to your fur missiles and if they open up make them suffer with archer fire and smash there wall with your own.

I like how https://www.military.com/undertheradar/2017/03/brief-history-dogs-warfare described the use of dogs in ancient warfare as "fur missiles," use them to engage unarmored enemy skirmishers while your battle line closes in for the kill. March 13 is canine vet day.
They can also be useful in the confined spaces of settlements, when defending.

or u can use them as a unit to attack infantry in the flank or rear aswell as it will disrupt there moral as there men are getting bit on the arse while getting stabbed in the front
