Why is family tree being neglected?
I don't understand, i thought the community loved family trees and the devs make the game for the community/customers. I really thought i would eventually see a fully fleshed out family tree system by now.

If i was given the opprotunity to give a total war game a direction to go in, it would be to focus on indepth lore, politics, family tree, and diplomatic relations. It would be a realistic, but fiction medieval world. I would create very unique and asymmetrical factions that people in modern times could see themselves and appreciate, and then add in mechanics that actually make you feel attached to your family, soldiers, and faction. Factions wouldn't be cliche either, none of them would scream out good guy/bad guy.

The combat hasn't been significantly changed for quite a while now (besides magic), but here is to hoping that they do this with the chinese total war (which i highly doubt).

ToB did get a family tree. Immersion is a different topic, I think it requires a major undertaking & revamping of the current game engine...be reminded ToB is being made using Attila's engine. So, its not fair to ask for something beyond that realm.

But I will say that I agree with you on more immersion is needed for future TW games especially the upcoming TW3K.

The same reason things like religion and diplomacy are being neglected, laziness.

That and sheer contempt of long-time fans by senior management at CA.

Or the realisation that they sucked and were irrelevent, and thus that getting rid of them makes for a better experience, old supporters be damned.

Just play the old games then. Jeez.

They seem to have put their effort into an overhaul of politics in general rather than dynasties, though family trees have never had a major role in TW. I remember in my first few games of M2 that I didn't even realise there was one.

I feel like an overhaul and reintroduction of the family tree system would easily receive high support from the community. Having deeper interaction with your soldiers and family would really make think twice about how i use things.

I don't understand, what is exactly lacking/wrong with the family tree as presented in ToB? Were you even aware that it does have one?

It has all the bells and whistles you expect. Family members (each with their own traits) pass away, offspring are produced (legitimate or bastard), generation succeeds generation... this is literally all there is to the essentials of the family tree.

You also have the political functions as introduced in Attila, such as assasination and embezzlement. Heck, you even get new features such as handing out estates to generals and governors, in order to keep them loyal, as well as the addition of retinues and followers to enhance the RPG element. Can't get much more Crusader Kings-esque than those two features.

Honestly, I am very curious to see why you think the family tree is inadequate in this game. You say it needs to be "fleshed-out," but I honestly can't imagine what more improvements can be made towards it.

The family tree, royal line, and royal court are pretty much the big thing in thrones. A lot of the older mechanics have been reworked into it, and some new ones added.
