Depends on what you're looking for.

In my opinion:

Best Turtle/Slow Build: Sudreyar

Most OP: Dyflin

Fastest Win: Mide

Easiest: West Seax

Hardest: East Engle

Best Missions Based Campaign: Gwined

For me it's West Seaxe, because Alfred the Great is a very interesting character. When I've done my Welsh campaign I may have to mod the Wessex campaign though as it's basically the tutorial faction.

East Engle period. The here king mechanic forces you to make peace with West Seax, which leads to many short wars instead of just one prolonged war.

Because early Viking units absolutely rape early Celt units. And only get stronger from there.

Because it has Longphorts, which upgrading opens the Trade techs, and Thrall markets, which are + trade, so that from the start Economy is booming.

Because like all Viking units, can win sea battles against much larger stacks. Want fun early? Declare war on the Welsh factions and wipe them out as they cross the sea, then conquer their open lands.

Because you can conquer all of Brega by turn 2 and have the most prosperous province in the game turning out 1300+ per turn while the next highest province is @ half that. Mana is no slouch either.

Because you get a Diplomatic bonus from the start that grows huge over time.

Because Rognvald. Love that dude.

The best thing about East Engle is that they are a real challenge, making it fun.

I mean that Sudreyar is protected from other armies by its remoteness. You can slowly build up your cities/tech/armies without being too concerned about attacks. You can choose your battles and attack your enemies without worrying about them taking your cities.

Like a turtle you are invulnerable but start kind of slow.

Gwynedd for me, but that's because:

a) I'm Welsh
b) It's about time we had a decent representation of a kingdom that historically gave the Vikings a real thrashing at a time when all else was falling before them, and
c) Longbows
