I have experience in other TW titles though.
My assorted tips for Thrones of Brittania (Very Hard, need pause because I'm old and slow) would be:
- Food is King, Gold is Queen. If you have both, you are Demigod.
So, focus your early economy buildings on food first, and direct income next. Skip the "add % income for something" buildings and always go for highest food and highest cash (farms and mines, basically, with occasional special buildings). When you upgrade main city hall (or monastery, whatever) your first next building should always be Granary for insane food and regeneration% bonus. Usually cash after that, and then garrison for public order + security.
- Right after you complete your 1st battle with rebels, start recruiting units so they can regenerate to full health. The quest reward for 1st quest is always public order + 100% army regeneration, make sure to use it to full. It's okay to go some -30-50 negative on food so you can field about 15 units by turn 5-6 - if you conquer some farming village next turn, you will be back to positive food and sit inside the village, regenerating.
- Relentless recruiting early game also means you can start researching stuff faster, since all military techs require you to recruit some units. Research your core military first, than economy stuff. Better poor than dead, I guess.
- Always make sure to secure your provinces for added benefits and reduced unrest. If someone controls a part of "your" province, he is target #1 to kill
- I might be biased as a relentless conqueror, but on game start, you badly need to conquer more land so you can get more food to field more units and armies. Aim to kill someone for a full province, the more holdings/villages it has the better. Usually its just 1 brutal fight and the winner takes the entire province.
- You can siege anything you want, it takes 1 turn to build battering ram and some 2-3 towers to attack the settlement if the owner lord is away. When you get to siege equipment (far away), you can attack immediately, but towers still are better than walking through hot oil like you're a McDonalds fries.
- Usually, when you delete the faction's main stack, the province town and all the villages are ripe for taking. You can even create an empty army with just a lord and his bodyguard unit and send it taking all the villages if the territory to cover is big, while your main army regenerates in the city. Basically, a faction that lost its main army is dead (as it was back in those days).
- Best skills (followers) for your General is Quartermaster (movement speed and army cost reduction), followed by Champion (command and lord unit strength). And for your Governors its Priest (loyalty) followed by Bard (public order). Max one, then the other one.
- Army compositions vary from faction to faction (some have better units in one field, some in the other), but in general 1 Lord + 2 Spears (anti-cavalry) + 8 melee swords/axes + 7 ranged (bowmen and skirmishers) + 2 Cavalry is standard layout for any army. Tune to your faction strengths/weaknesses (e.g. English cavalry is nice, get more, Norse foot melee is brutal, get more, Picts crossbows/English longbows are nice, get more, etc).
