ORGANIZING HISTORICAL BATTLE SCENARIOS
I'm interested in organizing some scenario battles for multiplayer using Stark's Variation Pack and I'd like to gauge the interest here on this forum.

These battles will not be perfectly historically accurate, as most of the early ones will be reconstructed based on slim accounts or hypothetical reasoning. Ultimately, what decides the battle will not be the accounts, but the skill of the players; therefore, victories are not guaranteed for either side. Unit era or rank will taken into consideration as well as the typical composition of the forces of the period during set up(ex.- Anglo-Saxons would be fyrd-heavy with a core of retinue troops in early period battles).

Unfortunately, I am only knowledgeable in regards to battles of this period taking place in the area of modern day England. Anyone with more knowledge of those taking place in Scotland, Wales or Ireland are encouraged to propose their own battle ideas in the comments below, as is everyone.

Potential battles would include:

Battle of Ashdown - 871 (1v1 on medium unit size; tier 1 only; Wessex vs. Norse)

Battle of Edington- 878 (1v1 large unit size; tier one only; Wessex vs. Dene or East Engle)

Battle of Brunanburh - 937 (3v3 large unit size: Circenn, Strat Clut, and Dylfin, vs. Wessex with perhaps a Mercian contingent; tier two only)

Battle of Maldon- 991 (2v2 medium unit size; tier two and limited tier three; Wessex vs. Dene and/or Norse)

Battle of Assandun- 1016 (2v2 large unit size; tier three only; Wessex vs. Dene)

Battle of Stamford Bridge- 1066 (2v2 large or ultra unit size; tier three only; Wessex vs. Norse and/or Dene)

Battle of Hastings- 1066 (2v2 large unit size; tier three only; Wessex vs. Normans)

Feel free to add your thoughts and ideas below and any other mods you would recommend using. I'd like to organize at least a couple for over the weekend if possible.

Cheers.

Nice idea!

Here is a battle suggestion, located in Ireland:

Battle of Sulcoit- 968 AD (1v1 Medium or Small sizes; mid tier; Mide vs. Norse)

Here is another battle to get Scots and such involved:

Battle of Carham- 1018 AD (2v2 Large or Medium sizes; Wessex + Wessex vs. Circenn + Stratclut)

Also, here are some more battles within Ireland, including from a later period, which could be interesting (the unit rosters would allow for them).

Battle of Clontarf- 1014 AD (2v2 Large sizes; mid to late tier; Mide + Norse vs. Dyflin + Norse or Dene)

Storming of Waterford- 1170 AD [2v1 Medium sizes; late tier; Normans + Normans (besiegers) vs. Mide]

Battle of Thurles- 1174 AD [2v2 or 1 v 1; Medium sizes (2v2) or Large sizes (1v1); late tier; Normans vs. Mide]

Awesome! The more ideas the better.

Is it possible you would have time this weekend to try some out?
It's major crunch time for my work in the summer, so most likely not, sadly.

Great news! Manics Faction Packs work with the Variation mod. This allows us to add EVEN MORE variation into the battles, as we can now use minor kingdoms to represent earldoms or regional lords alongside the forces of the main kingdoms.
