When i boot the game it says "press A to start" so i do that... but nothing happens.
Whatever button i press nothing happens.
I have tried different controllers reinstalling the updating drivers but nothing happens.
And this is the only game that has this problem.

I don't know what platform you're using but I also cannot get this frigging game to recognise my Playstation Dualshock 4 controller that in every settings menu is engaged. WTF?

I am working with a PC and x-box 360 controllers (I still have yet to try my game cube controllers)

Maybe try disconnecting other controllers which might override the input of the one you want to use.

Also check your Steam controller settings. Sometimes Steam overrides the controller settings, so its not detected correctly.

Xbox 360 & PS4 Dualshock definitely work out of the box without any additional settings / drivers / hacks required.

I have tried disconnecting other controllers and I have tried checking your Steam controller settings. So far no luck (but thanks the help anyways:winter2019happybulb:)

oh also i made a controller set up that works by setting the buttons on the controller as keyboard keys and that seems to work pretty well but its still a work in progress.

Not working for me either - I'm using a genuine DS4 controller, via Bluetooth, with DS4Windows 2.2.6, and the game seems to detect that I have a controller (the opening screen changes from just text to "Press (X) to continue" when I press a button on the DS4) but none of the control buttons or axes on the controller actually do anything. At all.

EDIT: tried it without DS4Windows and it makes no difference.

Note that I have "PlayStation Configuration Support" turned off in Steam Controller Settings, although turning it on doesn't seem to make any difference. The controller does work fine in other games, it's just this one that doesn't see it at all.

EDIT2: I think the problem was that I had another controller (a HOTAS & pedals) connected too. Once I disconnected those, the DS4 controller works (with DS4Windows).

i made a controller set up that fixes this problem by setting the buttons on the controller as keyboard keys.
you can find it in the controller configuration settings within LMDH.
Just press Shift+Tab and it's on the upper right corner.
After click that "browse configs" and you'll find it in the community tab on the right.

my rig is a spaceplane command center primarily but i have been playing some steam games too, to take advantage of the potent hardware on this machine. thank you so much! i generally consider myself an excellent troubleshooter but i had no idea how to proceed to a solution until i read your answer! thanks many billions.
