Play as NPC...

Do you guys know any cheat/mod that allows you to play as NPC? I have looked everywhere and the links seem to be either broken or no longer available. So far I have used the only remaining program that allows me to sort of change character appearance - Jade Empire Save Editor 0.6. However, as soon as I edit and change the appearance of my current character, the game crashes even before I load the save file. So any suggestions?
