Gao the Greater Bug - FIX FOUND!

After finding the DragonFly, I know I'm supposed to head out the next door and up to fight Gao the Greater, but two guards seem to be stuck in the way and it won't let me interact with them to figure out whats going on. anyone else having this problem? any fixes?

Head to the large door in that room. That triggers a fight with them that lets you continue.

I am having this exact same issue. Tried reloading earlier saves, changing audio and video setting in the configurator, and foul language. Nothing worked. Those two dbags will not move out of my way.

didn't work. I have killed everyone in the room and also the big elephant in the treasure room and the guys still won't move or let me pass

Bugged as well, can't continue to next chapter as this is now the last step.

I had to just start a new game since i foolishly deleted previous autosaves. I have seen some people saying that if you load up your game back before you start the pirate hideout, it should work

I'm having this exact problem and I too deleted my autosaves .. I thought it was dumb that it gave you a new one for each thing, and I like to keep my saves .. uncluttered. So, since all my current saves, are inside the pirate base .. man, being forced to start over at this point? I think I'll wait a few months, I don't care to go through all that dialog again just after I've done it, on the off chance it fixes this. Really disappointing too, I remember loving this game when I first played it on Xbox.

I figured it'd be pretty easy to spot, since it's the only post I started, and it's has "bug fix" and "Gao the Greater" in the title. Since it's apparently not as obvious to spot as I intended, here's the fix.

- Close the game completely.
- Go here, download this .zip file. http://jade-empire-in-style.com/download/pirate_workshop_fix_2.zip
- Find your Jade Empire game folder (I did this by right clicking the game on my list, go down to Properties, then hit the tab for Local Files at the top, the top button should now be "Browse Local Files" .. hit that and it'll open your folder for you.
- Place the contents of the zip file you downloaded, into the folder called "override" in your local folders. For me (Win 7) it's: Computer/C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Jade Empire/override
- Once the files are in place, restart Jade Empire. Those two guards will now join in on the combat as intended, and no longer be on the stairs.

Hasn't worked at all and I've done it 5 times already

I just had this bug too, but got through with a much easier workaround:

1) Loaded a "safety" save I made, prior to entering pirate region.

2) Re-loaded a save, standing in the Dragonfly hangar, prior to the Ogre ambush.

3) Triggered the fight, it proceeded normally.

Note: When it bugged, I had just run down and backup through the pirate maps to check gem spawns.

I have literally tried every suggested fix, but have not had any luck with this bug.... Help! :(
