Depends on your definition of work. If you define works as being able to buy it, load it, and then play it; the sad answer is no. It won't launch hence the long "Get the GOG version" thread. I play it using Windows 8.0, so I am assuming that it will work with 8.1 with a bit of fiddling.

Just get the GOG version until someone fixes the Steam version.

It worked for me with win 8.1 after some fixing. Still, if the GOG version works flawlessly (as stated above), I'd get that one if I were you.
