Black Screen of death?

Just got this game; It goes to black screen right after a cutscene in the swamp -- the guy with a staff. I can hear him talking and can move the mouse pointer, but the screen is black and never comes back. Reboots, etc -- nothing fixes it. Surprised I am stuck with a technical problem one hour into the game!

Anyone encounter this yet?

I haven't. Have you already tried the usual suspects? Change graphics settings? Change GPU 3D settings? Verify game cache? Run in borderless window?

Looks like I had to disable trailing focus, that seemed to fix it

Just picked up the game today and for anyone else happening across this bug, I fixed it by turning all of the graphics options to off and lowering resolution to the lowest. After I passed the cutscene I turned everything up again and it worked just as well :)

Oh how I wish this fixed the problem; I set all the graphics ratios to their lowest (640 times 480 and turned off all the stuff like soft shadows and anti-aliasing) and still ♥♥♥♥ all happens. My screen is just permanently black and there's nothing I can do about it. What a bugged piece of trash.

After some further futzing around, it appears to work when you do lower resolution AND have focus trails turned off. Doesn't change the fact the game is beyond buggy.
