Proper play order?
So as far as I can tell, the best way to play it for continuity of story would be this, then the intro to 1 (up to what point?), Then 2, then 3, then the rest of 1?

I'd just play all the way through Darksiders 1 first. It sets up a bunch of things for the others, including characters (even antagonists). Death's 2nd game is a bit more of a sideshow with some overlap, but in the end, all three games so far get you pretty much to the same end point.

So I'd just say play them in order from 1 to 3, and we'll see how exactly Genesis fits into the picutre. I'd still play it after Darksiders 1, though, simply for the flashback effect.

If you want the "proper" way to play, order would be:
1. Darksiders: Genesis
2. Darksiders 1 - play until you get killed by Straga
3. Darksiders 3
4. Darksiders 2
5. Darksiders 1 - continue 'till the end.

100% agreed with this order.

Agreed. And to elaborate, I'll quote myself from another thread:

Well, we do know that after the Apocalyptic prologue of Darksiders, War was imprisoned for about a hundred years. We also know that the events of Darksiders III take place before those of Darksiders II, since Strife still has both of his guns at the end of the former.

We also know that War was already/still imprisoned (i.e. after the first game's prologue and before the rest, i.e. during the century-long time-skip) when Fury starts her adventure and that after that some time must've passed before Death started his adventure, because Strife's losing/depositing/leaving of his guns must've happened first.

That gives us a decent idea of the Darksiders II - IV timeline, though it doesn't tell us how close to the prologue of the first game Darksiders III starts or how close to the rest of it Darksiders II ends. However, since Fury is hidden away with the remnants of humanity and Death is dead before all of them get summoned after the conclusion of War's journey, any time could've passed after both games have ended. The only indication that at least a decade or two have passed after the first game's prologue, is the vegetation, while an indication that it's still a few decades before the main portion of the first game is that the Dark Tower featured in Darksiders' final act isn't yet completed (Abraxis sidequest).

So, in conclusion, I'd say that the chronology is most probably something like this:

  1. Darksiders II flashbacks - The Annihilation of the Nephilim
  2. Darksiders Genesis
  3. [Undefined time jump]
  4. Darksiders The Abomination Vault
  5. [HUGE time jump]
  6. Darksiders II time travel - meeting Samael and Lilith
  7. Darksiders prologue "Premature Apocalypse"
  8. ~20-30 years time skip
  9. Darksiders III
  10. Darksiders IV(?) - Strife's solo adventure
  11. Darksiders II
  12. Darksiders main game
  13. Darksiders V(?) - the conclusion/End War

Now somewhere between Darksiders III and the Darksiders finale there have to be more time skips but we don't know whether those are between III and IV, between IV and II or after II... or whether there are several in between them all...
