And also because it's one of the best anime out there, so you should definitely see it.
But if you don't, the game won't spoil anything (even though it should). Each time you meet a new character you have the option to view a very brief flashback that basically only tells you the bare minimum about them, and the game proper studiously avoids mentioning any plot details from the anime. Which is a shame, because there are some plot elements that I'd have loved to see 'em follow up on.
