Companion join event error

On the Judge route, I recruited Mary after clearing the Cultist camp and talked with the Bounty Hunters. I have 4 of 5 party at the time and she "joined" the group with the tile at the bottom of the screen and ability to modify her inventory, but did not show on the list of members in the 'map' party screen. After many attempt at reloads, new zones, etc she was just gone when back at the base.

I reloaded a much earlier save and added a 5th member and then her recruitment was per normal, and was available at base.

Perhaps when you recruit, you could add an option to take them into the party immediately, rather than send them to the base and have to wait to go back there to get them later as well.

As a personal note, I really wish Bubba's special was able to be learned by others. He kinda becomes almost a mandatory character in some ways. Also, the ability to change both skills would be much cooler for party make-up, instead of innate skills maybe just a skill they start with unlocked, but can be changed like the second skill. Just my .02.

I had something similar. Mary joined me, but after I left the map she was gone. When I returned to the same map, she was back in the room I found her in, but there was no dialogue option.
