I really don't know much about football, only the basic rules. The game looks really fun and interesting, but I'm just not sure how exactly I should be playing my role..

I'm sure there will be eventually. While this game's based mostly on gridiron/American football, there are some differences, like linemen being able to receive passes, etc. RyanTactics has started putting together some videos about game basics. Maybe he'd be interested in doing some game basics videos at some point:
