How do you tame wolves?

When I created my kennel in my first game I automatically had wolves. But now I'm on my 3rd game save due to crashes and they have not spawned for the last two. What do I need to do to tame wolves and obtain my sled?

I actually figured it out if anyone had the same question. With me creating new games due to glitches I went straight to the followers rather than getting other objectives. You must claim a second shard to get access to your wolves. The closest one being directly north.
