Worms Armageddon review
WUM is one of the best Worms title of all times. I know it's far from the original idea, but it's a good example of well implemented changes: it's a 3D version of the popular game, and does its job fairly well. Here are some PROs and CONs, so you can evaluate it yourself.

- It's Worms, it's in 3D
- The return of the craziest weapons of all times, with some newer ones
- Speaking about weapons, you can create your own special one
- Worms can be customized in lots of different ways
- Game modes can also be customized at your wish
- A very good amount of contents.
(Not only the Mayhem campaign, in fact, even the 3D's one!)
- You can also challenge yourself with... Challenges!
- Deathmatch is, like any other game mode aside from the story, playable in local or online
- Every historical era has its own easter eggs Back to the future's 'DeLorean', anyone?
- Steam achievements!

- Even if there's an online option, you probably won't find anyone playing.
This also means that some achievements are impossible to get, if you're into that.
- Playing with a keyboard is perfectly doable but...
You either have to reassign the commands or just have patience with the learning curve; don't worry though, this is absolutely normal for the majority of games
- You think *overused "hard" game* was hard? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Seriously, there's a lot of trial and error, especially in late game (and that's not necessarily a bad thing, imho)

All in all, this game deserves to be played.
Online multiplayer is, imho, an option from which I can safely do without.

🟡 Requires heavy tinkering

1) To fix resolution problem change the "high DPI settings" of the game executable:
- Find the game executable WormsMayhem.exe on your system (manage > browse local files).
- Right-click the executable, then select Properties.
- Switch to the Compatibility tab and click on Change high DPI settings, under "Settings".
- On the new window, under "High DPI scaling override", activate the checkbox: [✓].
- Select Application from the dropdown menu and confirm with OK.
- Click Apply, then OK on the Properties window.
- Launch the game.

2) Worms Ultimate Mayhem Anniversary Patch:

Fixes performance issues, enables support for all languages present in the game files, removes the sepia effect in the Worms 3D campaign levels, as well as many other things.

3) To fix controls disable Steam Direct Input: Right click on the game > Properties > Controller Options

4) To fix button prompts touch the touchscreen (so it register as a mouse input) and press any button. This should enable proper xbox prompts.

After hundreds of hours and over 10 years, I figured it's about time I sit down and write a review for this masterpiece in gaming history. This gem holds a very special place in my heart, and it will forever be one of my all-time favorite games. To me, this is Team17's magnum opus. It doesn't get any better than this. It is the reason I first began to engage with the Steam community years ago when I created the Worms Ultimate Mayhem Militia with my brother, and it's the reason I have hundreds of friends on Steam today. To put it quite simply, Worms Ultimate Mayhem isn't just a game, it's one of my passions. I know the new Rumble has beautiful graphics and a much larger playerbase, and the 2D games like Armageddon are beloved and often regarded as best, but in my humble opinion this is the greatest Worms game there is.

I also understand I'm in the minority for preferring 3D, but despite what the diehards say, I don't think worms was "meant" to be played in 2D just because that was the original formula. It just happens to be the style most fans were introduced to and are familiar with. I think the natural evolution of the franchise was clearly to move into 3D and fully utilize the physics-based play style Worms is so well known for. In fact, I'd argue that nearly every 2D worms game is just a remaster/"directors cut" of the game before it with bonus features. The IP was basically a series of stagnant remakes for a decade. 3D was a game-changer, and quite literally added an entire new dimension to the same old stale platformy gameplay we were starting to see mimicked all over the place in flash arcades and early mobile games. Now it's come full circle and Worms is the one imitating recent popular games with Rumble.

While I am overjoyed that Worms got new game and a nice makeover, I am a bit disappointed to see the new direction they've decided to take. Turn based combat is one of the staples of Worms, and I personally think changing the formula to real-time completely destroys half of the strategy. A huge part of what makes Worms enjoyable for me is the casual pace of the game. It's all about taking turns watching each other pull off impressive maneuvers, lucky shots, scheming stratagems, and just generally making asses of ourselves. I'm a bit of an expert in the lattermost category.

WUM is when the formula reached near perfection in my opinion, unpopular though it may be. I'll be the first to say it's far from flawless. It still has so much more potential. The problem is, 2D Worms had generations to perfect the recipe. Out of 23 Worms games, 3D only really got 3 major titles, and the final one is just a remastered combo of the previous two. It is my sincere hope that the franchise returns to a 3D style in their next Worms title, but until then you will find me playing this. Although admittedly not without it's shortcomings, this was and IS peak Worms.

Worms 3D (WUM) is a almost like playing chess. Explosive, humorous chess...

A true gem of the past, that is way more appealing than all the new 2D worms games that have been relased quite recently.

Not much of a player base for online matches, so it would be nice to have friends to play with.

Despite that, it is indeed a wonderful way to pass the time without wasting brain cells.

The 3D Worms games were never as popular or successful as the 2D games but to be honest I actually liked them more.
It just has it's very own charme.
