It's free to play
Yeah, with an option to spend money
Just like with the original.
I'll be fine thanks. There are still plenty of single player AAA games that come out and work offline just fine. Even more indie games. And with the power of modern engines the gap between indie and AAA is getting smaller by the year.
Regardless, making a single player focused game "always online" in order to implement a microtrasaction based business model is a really crappy move.
Games wit single player components should have offline support. Alaways.
I agree, Meridian 59 and Ultima Online were better ;)
Exceptions confirm the rule
Here is a quick list of F2P games that have been shut down, that are now unable to be played ever again. It lists 154 killed games and i'm sure thats not even all of them.

Imagine a book-burning, but all other copies of the books around the world magically burn down as well. THATS the problem with games-as-a-service
It's a nightmare for games archiving
No F2P game lives forever. Hawken was taken away from us because of the "reliant on central server"-model.
And sooner or later, it will be taken away again :(
damn, miss me some S4 League and Dark Eden.
What does that have to do with anything I said?
He's stating he won't spend any money ON A FREE GAME.
I don't care if it's online or not, the threat to "not spend money" on a game when it's free is beyond silly.
I guess you didn't understand that either.
How dare the devs put an option in the game for players to send money to them? The nerve of them. Let them buy groceries with steam follows.
imagine being such a simpleton that you think you are OBLIGATED to pay for something that is given to you for free, rather then paying because you enjoy it.
also, if the game is shut down, then the money you spend on it burns too, as you cant use anything you bought with it anymore.
