In NG plus you can get use out micro cams much earlier since you start with all your skills. All you need to do is buy them. However I think that a good way theycould have been made more useful for later areas is if they could be placed in other areas or if they wanted to balance the micro camera they could only make it detect the routine of people that passed directly in front of the camera. This would make it so the player had to take a risk and place them somewhere in the property that would detect them.
Yea they are honestly not great. You can plant them in mailboxes in front of some houses. Emphasis on some, because its not that many and by the time you can buy these in the first run you might already have intel on those houses anyways.
If you find a house with the proper mailbox and where you still need the intel you can just place the camera (the mailbox will have a camera symbol on it).
After placing it the symbol changes to a clock to indicate that you now have to wait for 24 hours. After that you just click the mailbox to retrieve the cam (yes you get it back) and you have full intel on the inhabitants schedules.
