If you're paying off your debt, you should fuse only a few certain things. Some things give you a hugely more profitable item, but some things actually make you lose money.
If you're playing on endless mode, yeah, fuse everything.
Some of the ingredients also count as other items. For example, chestnuts also count as food and natural heaters also count as "something warm". But for the most part, things like slime fluids will be hard to sell in the shop. Unfortunately, you'll need a crapton of slime fluids and chestnuts etc. for fusion...so expect to do a lot of dungeon diving if you wanna unlock the entire fusion menu.
Store atmosphere is affected by:
* the items you place on display
* the items you place on window display (a little more than other items)
* shop decor (much more effect than the other two)
You want to aim close to the center of the store atmosphere graph (according to tear) to attract the most customers. If you feel you have extra money you can always buy some to play around with them.
Loot in dungeons is worth so little that you're usually better off staying home, merchanting generic stock, and building customer rep and XP. It's worth it for the first full run of the first dungeon to stock your shelves for the first time and pick up the vase (which is only a surefire drop the first time you beat Charme), but after that, dungeons are something you do for fun when you're making comfortable time on your payments.
Several of the Rank 1 recipes, most of the Rank 2, and almost everything above that are mechanically impossible to make before you hit the last story dungeon, which may not even happen your first time through the game. Like, at least one ingredient in most recipes is not on any drop tables before that. Only two of the recipes you can make are even worth enough more than merchant stock in the first place to begin to justify gathering materials.
To put things into perspective, a full run of the postgame dungeon rarely yields more profit than I could have made by spending those same two time slices selling tier 4-5 merchant stock (which can be unlocked before story mode ends). And almost nobody buys anything on the "ingredients" tab.
