(I have had this happen with other characters and I just massively overcharge them to convince them to get something else)
2) If the game doesn't auto equip them from the prompt then just manually equip them by going into the equip menu and swaping out their current weapon with the one you want them to use.
@ slandy - I think this is the issue, I started looking into the swords individually and noticed that yeah, that Crystal Sword has +mdef and +mag whereas the Demonbane has +0 +0 in those categories and I think the game thinks that it's better by default, when in reality on a weapon the only thing I personally care about is the added +12 atk.
Overcharging adventurers for items you don't want them to have isn't likely to lower your store rep or friendship much, it will just break your chain.
I know how the item holding works in the game at this point, I am in NG+ when experiencing the issue. It wasn't a matter of not having space to hold the adventurer's gear (I was entering the dungeon with only one slot filled; the sword I wanted him to use). We debunked this issue with finding out that the game places the other stat gains as a higher priority than the attack gain. Once I re-sold him a Deomonbane through the shop I didn't have this issue anymore, and as further proof if I offered him a Crystal Sword at the beginning of the dungeon he would take it over the Demonbane due to the +mdef and +mag.
Issue 2: The auto equip function at the start of each adventure is just an automatic "Optimum Equipment".
1) It tells players that they haven't equipped the brought-in equipments yet, so they actually had to use that function or equip stuff themselves
2) Since it uses Optimum Equipment function, this means that the game will use the same way as adventurers buying stuff from your shop to see which item gets equipped. This is due to the fact that you CAN bring all sorts of weapons for your adventurer.
If the game decides that your Demonbane is weaker due to less overall improvement, it will not automatically equip it for you.
Personally I never came across this and had to try it for myself earlier before making this post, since adventurers rarely give me the opportunity to progressively upgrade their default equipments. I usually get to do major jumps from default to the strongest buyable ones, Crystal Nightmare weapons and finally Rank 5 fusions.
