any item thats price is currently in a slump. vending machines ignore sales slumps/sprees so its good to stock them with 'cheap' goods and bad to stock them with goods that people are currently willing to pay top dollar for.

Venders sell items at base price. Base your strategy on that.

As a rule, put high-priced items in them. This may seem like a waste because you could sell those for more over the counter. However, vender-sales will happen regardless of customer, while for over-the-counter sales, you're at the whims of the customers. A vender is able to sell the 200k Checkered Floors, which customers would never buy otherwise.

Aside from that, blue-priced items are good; red-priced items would be a bit of a waste.

^ also, floors, and cheap/expensive foods in them is great.

I have 2 vending machines to sell foods. 1 just has "cheap" foods from apples, cherries, walnut breads, etc. 2nd one sells the more expensive stuff like melons, sandwiches, stews, etc.

1 vending machine to sell books

1 to sell "cheap starting gear"

1 for "expensive gear" but not too expensive unless there's a price crash.

People will buy from vending machines regardless of what's in it--despite what you would think, they aren't looking for food or whatever. The best use of the vending machines is actually just to get rid of stuff you'd never sell otherwise, like low-quality monster parts.

I 100% disagree with selling cheap stuff in a vending machine. Its a waste of a sale. Dump cheap crap in town yourself. Save 'customer sales' for items that are worth selling since the characters budget doesnt limit the sale.

Exactly. Even though you can get more profit per sale by selling over the counter, at some point you'll have more items than you can even sell that way ... if you can get customers to pick that item in the first place.

That's why venders are useful: anything will sell in those things. A sale is a sale, and I'd rather have a 60000 pix profit on a Checkered Floor than 50 pix profit for an apple.
But...but...you're pricing people out! Gentrification!

Fun fact: in my current file, little girls are the first customer group whose reputation re my store I bumped up high, specifically because there was a boom on books early on and also because I tend to charge them just-price or near-pin prices based simply on my guesses about what I can charge each customer.

For those who have Euria in their games, putting some stuff she likes MAY prevent her from talking to you, since she may buy items from vending machines.

The vending machine full of vending machines is the best. Cha-ching! "There's a half-dozen swords". Cha-Ching! "There's that glove I need for the fusion."
