Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale

Similar games 2020?
I know that this question has been asked already.
But are there any similar games in 2020?
Most other shop sims Ive found have really mediocre ratings.

Closest was moonlighter, but the combat was less than mediocre and I personally loathed the shop mechanics. Other than that there was only Winkeltje and that doesn't even have a story or dungeon... so slim pickings. Somehow this genre seems to only be catered to by cynical mobile games for the most part.
I remember running across a game called "Shop Keepe" or something like that but I heard it was mediocre.

Yeah shoppe keep (2) is a quite awkward sandbox game that is easier to compare to a crafting/building game than what it's title might suggest.

none really, RPG item shop simulator is an untapped genre that only Recettear managed to do well

I am going to be posting my compilation list that I posted in another similar thread like this one.
Just to note it isn't anything new just what I found looking through older threads of the same nature.
If it helps you out at all then great if not then it at least crosses off a lot of older suggestions for you.

Adventure Bar Story - Gather ingredients from turn-based dungeon crawling to sell at your shop or level your adventurers. Played on Android, best enjoyed on BlueStacks imo.

Kamidori Alchemy Meister - Gather materials from turn-based dungeon crawling to sell at your shop or craft gear for your adventurers. 18+ - H-Game. Once you get past the titties and blowjobs it's actually a seriously fun game with tons of content. Actually you will never get past the titties and blowjobs, they happen any time you do something good for your harem. Ya, it's a ♥♥♥ rpg so you get a harem.

Fortune's Tavern - Meh. That's all I have to say about that one.

Rune Factory - Haven't really tried this one much yet, from what I read you gather materials in dungeons for your ... farm? So I guess it's like Harvest Moon with dungeon crawling? Idk you'll have to let me know what you think lol. This ones for DS/Wii

The op of this thread wanted something more on the dungeon crawler side of Recettear & at least by this posters claim these 2 games have the shop running side in them.
Might be worth a look?

I've been meaning to try out Pickers, but that seems more like the shop side of it anyway.

I've heard that Hometown Story is similar but I've heard mixed reviews, and again it is more on the shop sim side.

If you're looking for dungeon-crawling action, I think you should look at Cladun X2.

(I haven't played any of these games myself, so I can't say for sure.)

There was also a mention of Stardew Valley which is much more of a Harvest Moon type of game where you do a lot o farming but, also includes some dungeon diving &, unfortunately or the case of shop keeping the closest you get is selling to 1 of 2 preexisting shops.

So if you liked or finished Recettear and want more of this genre have a look.

This 1 while it is made by the same devs it is a completely different game as far as I can tell.
Seems this one became a third person adventure where you are doing only dungeon runs with a quest/story.

Made from the same developers too. Although, check the reviews before buying.

Atelier Annie, which was mentioned a few times, is part of a longer series by Gust, localized by NISA. The title that I've played that probably matches closest is Atelier Rorona: Alchemist of Arland, which is the first in the series' Arland trilogy. The tone is very similar to Recettear, Rorona and Astrid have a dynamic that reminds me strongly of Resette and Tear, and a major focus of the game is creating items to meet the requests of the community.

I'm a huge Atelier series fangirl, and I can't tell you how much fun and whimsy the series has. The words simply don't exist. But perhaps this quote gets closest:

"Okay, you know how every RPG has the grand heroes chosen by fate to become wonderful friends and stand up to the evil sorcerer/empire/corporation/monster and keep it from destroying the world?
This game is not about them.
You know how in almost every RPG, buried about halfway down the final dungeon, sitting next to the second to last save point in the game there’s a shopkeeper who has every healing item in the game and every weapon or bit of armor that doesn’t require an epic quest? The one who leaves you wondering: 'Just how in blazes did she get down here? I’m the ridiculously powerful chosen one and it’s almost impossible for me to do it so how did a lowly shopkeeper pull it off'?
This game is about her."

This is my attempt at trying to condense a bunch of posts from this thread so eel free to look at it in case you want to see the full comments. I did leave the one above because I found it entertaining as well as informative for at least 2 different games to look into.

Final Fantasy Chronicles: My Life as a King similar themes. It more about equipping your heroes and running a whole town, but the poster "definately gota similar vibe from this game." Potions and Swords Found on Facebook, Armor Games, edgebee.com and many other flash game sites Since this 1 is based on flash which will no longer be supported in december this option might no longer be availiable at some point. Kamidori Alchemy Meister a visual novel / shop simulator 18+ & heavily anime-stylized Rune Factory Final Fantasy Chronicles: My Life A citybuilder-lite with light adventurer management elements. Reminded poster a lot of the mobile game Dungeon Village by Kairosoft. Pixel Shopkeeper Nono's Magic Shop It does feel somewhat less immersive since the shop is shown mainly as just a list of items and customers are reduced to just their age and gender but overall it feels very similar and somehow even the lack of debt or any requirement http://store.steampowered.com/app/381120/Shoppe_Keep/ http://store.steampowered.com/app/606150/Moonlighter/ Features dungeon crawling rogue lite similar to Zelda games with the shop management sim of Recettear http://store.steampowered.com/app/829250/Craft_and_Dungeon/

What is Atelier Viorette and why can't I find info on such a game?

edit: oh it seems to be Atelier Viorate: The Alchemist of Gramnad 2, the 5th mainline game in the franchise.

Yeah the only game that even comes close to the same feeling is the atelier series of game but unfortunately (Or fortunately if you're already a fan of the series like me) is that instead of running a shop you're instead going to fields or dungeons in order to get materials to craft items and equipments to advance the story and also to become stronger.
Algester Jul 7, 2020 @ 3:47am
Viorette's gimmick is infact crafting and running a store but the price isnt as dynamic as CAPITALISM HO!
basically think Rorona but rather than keeping the Atelier alive by doing quests you keep the shop alive by being able to pay the rent

i highly recommend "Kamidori - Alchemist Meister"
It's the superior Recettear basically, it's almost the same game and everything in it is better
the main difference is that it's a hentai-game, but even without the hentai the game would be awesome

I really hope Steam will put it on market one-day
Kamidori is such a great-game it absolutely deserves to be there

Only running the shop though, no haggling or dungeon delving.
