This game is plain old fun! Action, mayhem, humor, awesome artwork and a bit of strategy sprinkled on top. The campaign is a great way to get introduced to all units and how to use the game mechanics before testing your skill in online battle. Even for someone who isn't an RTS player there's more than enough to love.

I really enjoyed the first game in this series but this one not so much, it's a bit different (DIFFICULT). Sure this one has more units and custom armies but I cant even unlock the new units because I cant beat the story mode missions! The first couple missions are super easy, especially if you've played the first game and know what you are doing. Then around level 8 or 9 they go super OP. They send a giant dude in that you have no chance against who tramples thru the limited story mechanism units you can produce and it feels hopeless. Furthermore there isn't an easy mode to casually move thru the story and unlock all of the units. It's do or die.

I can say that remote play together works great and is fun with a friend. Although once again you can only use the units that you have unlocked in story mode. For online PVP though you will be needing a friend to play with because online is seemingly dead.

Definitely check out the first Swords and Soldiers game, its a blast. Although I really can't recommend Shawarmageddon.

If I could, I'd rate this as "its ok."

Positives:
It has a fun art style, a nice, relaxing RTS system with a lot of room for mastery, and a fun campaign. They managed to have an Arabian faction in a cartoony game without it being racist, which is surprising.

Cons:
The campaign is short, and multiplayer is dead. The campaign teaches you the basics and an understanding of every faction, but the real meat of the game was intended to be the multiplayer pvp. Unfortunately, you'll never find a match, nobody plays it.

i think the fact that 80% + of the players who own this game got the achievement "earn one medal" (which you get after the first campaign-mission) and just 8% of them got the achievement "earn 35" medals(wich you kinda get after playing half the campaign) should tell you a lot..

A very fun game for PvP Players.
The units look cute, but don't get it wrong, the PvP game is pretty hardcore with lots of ingenious tactics.

After like 150 matchups, I'm still adjusting strategies and tactics against different factions as there're so many tricks on timeing, using physics and unit/skill combinations.

There're lots of funny memories during my matchups.

Once I rushed 3 berserkers against Perisa. When them reached the doorstep of the opponent's base, a Genie came out. Guess what? I bounced the Genie and a soldier behind my berserkers with Thor's Hammer. Then the berserkers demolished their base, while the Genie was trying his best to reach mine.

In one match, while my mule was walking to a pile of airdrop crates, my opponent exploded a corpse to poison it. So I dashed the mule across. Then he threw a worker at the airdrop and scared my mule aways. When the worker nearly got the crates, I bribed him and let him to do the delivery instead. Unfortunately, goblins started threw spears on the worker, but he still managed to die after my fakirs. And yeah, the mule continued his job after the heroic traitor.

During one Siege Troll duel, my opponent used their gold on fear magic, while me on 2 supporting spear goblins. They used the fear magic at the first round and won one hit. Then they found their troll got poisoned by spears and unable to attack as fast as mine. Everytime he tried to attack, mine hit him first and bounces him out of range. Never thought the goblins accurately has more use than creating corpses before.

Once a group of my spear goblins rushed to enemy base and right met the resurrected Siege Troll. Funny tactics was created - I kept converting full-healthy goblin into skeleton to let him walked forward and apart from the group. Enemy Siege Troll kept bashing skeletons and barely walked forward until dropdown after feed with spears.

When Helga and her clone met, mine supported by berserkers, while theirs by axe throwers. They kept healing the hero and turning my hero into a sheep and then lost the confrontation. All because I zipped 3 of their axe throwers and blocked the other from reinforcing with Thor's Hammer.

One Viking user built a lot of Runestones. Everytime, my Siege Troll got close to their base, he calls Larry to punch my whole army back to my base. It's just so fun to see this kept happened like 3 times in that matchup. Until I started to build Crypts to take the tower bases and depleted their mana.

In one Demon vs Viking matchup, the enemies formed a very strong formation with Helga, axe throwers and elders. Nothing could walk near them, even the Siege Troll. So I used my Siege Troll to throw grenades (barrel riders), it's just so fun to see how fast the whole medieval army got destroyed by next-age technology.

In a matchup, the opponent tried to dash the Genie across my defense tower and then immediately got bounced back by Thor's Hammer. Tons of fun.

But yet, there're still lots of fun and surprises waiting to explore in this game.

It has the same problem as Blackguards 2 - the game presents you with a fully fledged RTS/RPG system of rules, but then the campaign is just a bunch of gimmicky puzzle levels that you need to figure out quite unconnected with learning how to play the game as an RTS.

Levels are completely unrelated to one another, mechanically, using completely different units and spells. They also like to pull the rug from under your feet and introduce a completely random change to the rules of the level halfway through. Levels are often very easy once you know what to expect, but not when you're first screwed over.

May be your thing, but not mine. I am simply not enjoying it at all, so I'll move on.

Swords and Soldiers 2 is a 2D strategy game where you have to destroy the enemy base at the other side of the level, while protecting your own base. To do so, you have to gather money from gold mines and crates that are dropping from the air. You can use this gold to produce units and to research new unit types. As soon as a unit is produced, it keeps walking to the other side and you can't stop or retreat.

To prevent this from getting boring, the developers have made a lot of different units in 3 unique factions. This is great, but you often have to gamble which unit to produce, since the fog of war around the enemy base prevents you from seeing which units the enemy is sending at you. You'll also need lots of trial and error to see what combination of units works against specific enemy attacks.

To keep things fair, you can also collect and produce crystals which you can use to cast spells. Spells can bribe enemy units, place defensive towers on the battlefield, raise fallen units etc. Using these spells is lots of fun, but again, also lots of trial and error. This makes the game rather frustrating in the later (more difficult) levels of the campaign.

Ok, I'm an RTS player. I love games like Command and Conquer and Warcraft 3 so I was immediately interested in a different take on the genre. The title is pretty silly so I didn't take it so seriously and started it up.

It's very cartoony, which is fine. I just clicked a bunch of times to get things started.

Its a 2d sidescroller that pushes you to the right, as you progress you face encounters and you build units as you go. You also get a hero that travels along as well. You cannot stop you just keep moving until you either die or reach the end. Ok, fine - but I wouldn't consider this an actual RTS then more of a spam your basic units and watch them get murdered and keep your hero alive. I barely played it to be honest, but here's why.

The way they talk is utter nonsense - I found it extremely annoying. There are text boxes as well so you can read along but I didn't feel any real need to. I think there is supposed to be a story there about vikings or something but I wasn't interested because the babble talk was just blowing out at every step almost. And then abilities would unlock like every 5 seconds which was also annoying as I'm trying to play the game and I don't need a huge notification popping up every 5 seconds while my axe throwers are being destroyed.

I'm going to play it again to give it a fair shake, but I don't really see a point to it other than just reaching the other side. I assume that all levels are going to be like that, which would bore anyone after say three times.

Hopefully when I do get back on it will warrant an edit on this review, but I can tell you that in my opinon its mislabeled. Just because you create units doesn't make an RTS.

Ok I gave it another shot, but I just cannot bear it. For example you need gold to make your units, and I was playing a level where there were gold crates falling from the sky. You have one unit that will retrieve the gold, but you literally have to click on each crate in order for her to get them, all the while your other units are continuing to the right so its a constant left and right back and forth that is hard to keep up with because as you are micromanging your gatherer in order to make new units, the ones on the right are getting dead by the mobs because without your help(bar abilities, spells, heals etc) they suck and die.

I will say though that the artwork is really well done. But why are all these sisters locked up in cages anyway and why am I all of the sudden fighting sultans and policemen? It's all too much and too busy for me.

Sadly a thumbs down.

After comparing and reading other reviews it seems that most people enjoy the PvP skirmish aspect of it, I only played a bit of the campaign so I could be missing the actual fun part of the game. Also, this is a seqeul and I never played the orignal so perhaps that's why I'm confused as to the story aspect. Anybody has any advice to make it more enjoyable I'll happily try it again.

Swords and Soldiers 2 is a fun cartoony strategy/puzzle game that features around 8 hours of campaign along with custom battles,multiplayer battles,local multiplayer and two fun challenge maps.


In terms of gameplay,the game is pretty straightforward.Pump up units in a specific order and assist them with spells,buildings and hero units.For me personally,the game did not become repetitive because as you advance each mission unlocks a few units/spells or buildings and the campaign maps are very different from one another.Most campaign mission have something unique about them and in-between them there are a few ''open battles'' which are more like a standard 2D RTS experience.

Swords and Soldiers 2 has 3 classes each with their own playing style,Vikings with pure strenght and force,the Persians which are more focused on stealth and nimbleness and the Demons which have some strong units like the Vikings combined with necromancy spells/units.After you unlock units from the main campaign you can make a combined army which is what you'll end up doing in order to test out various compositions to see which are stronger.

There are two currencies in the game.Gold and Mana.With gold you build units and with mana you can use spells.Worker units are collecting gold from a mine near the base and a spell even transforms that mine into a mana mine.Ocassional gold/mana drops appear on the map and you can send workers to pick them up.This mechanic rewards you for being aware of the map.

As you advance you will find out that there are tons of strategies viable and depending on your playstyle you will adopt certain approaches to the game.Some combination of units are fun,some are efficient while others are just entertaining.

This game is way more complex and fun than it looks like but I can't speak about balancing because multiplayer is dead so I don't know if there are some hidden OP strats out there.But it sure seems like it.


When talking about graphics there is not much to say.The game has a cartoony and easy on the eye style which really compliments the goofiness of the dialogue and story.It's a good looking game overall with a great UI and even a good looking Main Menu.Most maps are good looking,each with a specific theme and nice little details or gimmicks.Aesthetically the game is just beautiful if you are into cartoony visuals.


Not much depth here,just a fun little story with childish humor and dialogue.The story loosely ties up with the first Swords and Soldiers game.


Swords and Soldiers 2 : Shawarmageddon is a great little game that you can enjoy if you have an itch for some RTS elements.It offers around 8 hours of content while still leaving place for more if you are interested in finding out better strategies or beating your high scores.I recommend this even if the 14.99 euros price it currently has is a bit too high for what it offers.It's a fun game that has a decent campaign experience with potential for local multiplayer or just fooling around trying to find better army compositions.

A good game that just improved on what the first flash game did.

- Open battles: lets you choose four tier 1, tier 2 and tier 3 units to make your own custom army.
-New art style and some voice acting

Cons- Online isn't really booming at the moment.
-PVP can be unbalanced.
-no Aztec or Chinese.

Even though the first game was pretty old in terms of everything I still had fun with it, the music and bad humor made it good.
The second one does it best to tell a story the way Ronimo Games does improve on the flaws of the last game, hopefully it picks up a crowd.
