Though there is no deny that both the FM and FH series have unrivaled car selections even The Crew 2 pales in comparison. Microsoft has absolutely gone bat sh*t crazy with all the vehicle licensing.
- FM7 has better lighting and sometimes looks really incredible as long as there are no trees visible because those trees are lower Res 2D Sprites that really break the immersion. The visual quality changes per track, some look amazing (natural lighting) others not so much (unnatural darkened lighting and/or 2D trees).
FM7 looks miles better in nightraces, that's one of Grid 2019s stronger weaknesses.
- FM7 has one of the worst menus in a racing game, it is not very welcoming whenever I launch the game. No catchy music, no fast transitioning, unnecessary cluttered.
-FM7 has no qualifying laps and the AI is very lifeless. You can perform shortcuts and ram AI cars with no penalties and sometimes you actually have to drive dirty to win at higher difficulty because in the "campaign" you always start as dead last place and they only give you a few rounds to catch up to first place.
- Grid 2019 has a much better campaign, it's still simple with no story cutscenes but it is to the point and you have the option to hotlap qualifies. The AI is better than in most racing games, ram them and they will get angry on you (which is even visible as marker). They will then try to cut your line if you want to overtake them the next time.
- Grid 2019's visuals have much higher contrast in its art design choice. It seems that they wanted to keep the impression of movie style visuals instead of going with full realistic lighting. Despite that, some tracks still look very realistic, especially Barcelona. Grid's weakness in visuals are the nightraces, they look bland in comparison despite them being more resource-hungry than the dayraces. Rain also looks very basic and worse than in FM7.
- For Surround Sound, Grid 2019 surpasses FM7 imo, you can hear commentators from the speakers in the croud dynamically and the other cars engine sound position is spot on.
- Handling is similar between those two games, the experience depends on how you configure them.
worth it, but don't hope too much on online lobby
I am liking Pcars3 over FM7 or GRID 2019
PC3 is my go to if I just want to chuck a car round a track and have a blast.
