This game is loosely based on Autosport.
It has drift. And Drag racing.....
Does ithis version have Drag racing?
Nope.

Grid 2 has drift, and more online activity by at least 2X.

Grid (2019) is an epic fail in too many areas to waste time listing them all.

We can all agree Grid 2019 has very bad sales but i just want to clarify the reasons Grid 2 has players online is not because its such a good game but because it has been offered for free previously.

Yep.... be patient :sniperskull:

I too am bitterly disappointed drift was removed, not so fussed about derby (although... It was a great way to vent your spleen if you ended up in a session of ramming idiots when you just wanna race or drift).

What I find even more insulting is when you see how many methods "Drift" points can be scored..
Power drift.
Braking drift.
Power slide.
These are just the ones off the top of my head that I've seen in RACES, think there are more but I'll have to check....
From Launch day until June 2011 (when they pulled the plug on the servers without ANY notice), Race Driver Grid was the home of drifting for many MANY people.
Us hardcore fans were STILL playing online via Tunngle, Gameranger and Hamachi (myself until around 2014 when GAS launched... It came closest to Grid 1 but still removed the favourites drift battle, freestyle drift, and the scoring method went from Combo-ing the whole event to dedicated "Drift scoring zones" and the laughable "Flow bonus".
Worst of all a maximum of just 2 players on track and delayed starts to boot.... Sigh....

From THIS
https://youtu.be/BsjsUeQEAz0

To This..
https://youtu.be/nuWe8y2luWQ

From THIS. 5 people close quarters tandem drifting for HOURS Exactly 99 drift in 5 laps of Okutama
https://youtu.be/IxacF8HWwC0

To This.... Having to wait at the start for any tandem fun with just 1 other player....
https://youtu.be/g6X38APE-ns

Or even WORSE! This if there were 3 players (or any odd number).....
https://youtu.be/wFPAxTb6SBk

From THIS.... Perfecting how to score Exactly 99 "legend" Drift @ Okutama in 5 laps and scoring over 100 million in 90 drift in just 3 laps of Longbeach...
https://youtu.be/QT6z2A9AJas

To this... Just under 9 million points in 3 laps. No reward for drifting the entire track from the start to the finish other than 100% "Flow" award.....
https://youtu.be/4OmBluZ3aoo

Codies choices, all in all, have taken the home of drift from Race Driver Grids "Poetry in motion"
https://youtu.be/b28tIPKu6yk

To a stilted mess (Don't even MENTION GRID 2...) that ultimately became boring...

To this in GRID 2019....

This really should be no surprise given that I highly doubt ANYONE now at Codemasters has actually played Race Driver Grid let alone worked on it...

Many Grid 1 devs left loooong before Grid 2, 60% of the team were let go after GAS with it's broken upgrades (Loore, Chris Groves predecessor quit and went to work for EA after fighting for 6 MONTHS to get the upgrade issue fixed then being forced to announce in his last ever forum post that the upgrade fix was abandoned along with all future support for the game).

Others left after the Dirt Rally (JustBigLee, PJ Tierney's predecessor) roll out was completed.

So in less than 10 Years Codies have gone from being award winning innovators to a laughing stock recycling the same game engine, whilst removing content time and time again finally jumping on the DX12 bandwagon (Badly, 5 YEARS after that API was introduced), just as Direct X Raytracing looms on the horizon some time next year...

Codies arrogance that they KNOW what we want and can remove core parts of the game, coupled with total ignorance of what the fans have been clamouring for since 2011 has lead them to these dire straights....
If it wasn't for the extension of the F1 licence I was actually expecting the collapse of the company altogether.....

What upgrade in which game?

Grid Autosport, the upgrades make no actual changes to the cars speed, acceleration, power etc.
DandyHighwayman informed codemasters of this after extensive testing e.g. pick any car buy it new and run it until it reaches level 50 but DON'T apply upgrades or install any tuning it at all.
Run 5-10 laps of any track and average the laptimes.
Then fully upgrade the car still without tuning, the Stats all clearly increase which SHOULD decrease the laptimes significantly given the rise in stats..
Run the same number of laps on the same course and average the figures.
When I did this the difference in laptime wasn't even measurable.
Top speed? Identical...
Time taken from standing start to hitting the rev limiter in top gear? Identical....
Laptime differences? Non existant....
Acceleration? Same as stock....
Braking distance? Same as stock....
Have a read of DandyHighwaymans Steam thread...
