really sorry for the delay in replying, have our heads down working on new screen capturing method at the moment. Regarding the performance for VR video playback, in general there's going to be a heavy overhead for the playback, especially for higher resolution videos, and Unreal's internal media player is far from being optimized, even though they're working on it.
We already optimized the playback of equaltriangular (sphere layout) quite a bit by only render part of the video that you see rather than the entire video. In terms of further optimization, we're looking to improve the performance by implementing our own media player into the engine eventually, but that's something that will take time.
