HD2 - Steam version CD key problem - possible fix!

Anything on activating our old retail version of the game/ expansion on steam? I cant believe this game is on here... its one of my all time fav's!

This wont work. But you can use a CD key changer to change the key kf the Steam version to your own retail key.

Yeah steam users cant play with other steam users online since all the cd keys for the game are all the same on here for everyone. Why it gives the "cd key already in use error" Problem is the developers didnt put into account people may try to play online with eachother on steam, therefore everyone has the same cd key and a server only allows one person with the same cd key connect to it.

Quoting from the link to change your cd key:

The cd key is stored in the registry at "Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Illusion Softworks\Hidden & Dangerous 2" in the key...

Change the key where the Xs are, leave the 0s as they were. And you can add 20 more characters onto the default cd key to make it more unique.

000X-0000-X000-0000XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

The X's can be changed to anything you want, make sure it's alphabetical or numbered, the chances of someone else having the same key after that is pretty low.



Only problem:

Steam will automatically set your registry to the key registered to that Steam account on the start/launch of the game.

But not sure if you change your key via regedit after you launched the game, if that will work. Need to test it still. However does anyone know how to edit the registry permissions to stop steam from changing the key each time i launch the game?. Since be stupid to always have to change the key after the game is already running using the technique mentioned in the link above.^^

I don't see problem here. Steam added H&D2 but they wrote on SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS.
Additional remarks: Multiplayer is NOT SUPPORTED

Yeah nice but the best times of H&D2 have passed and i don't know why someone tries to "revive a man shot in the head".I know that H&D2 is great game but from 2006 and soon we have 2018 so I think it's time to stop. I have hope that one day I'll hear that 2K Czech studio is working on H&D3.

Problem with steam, is that it does refresh your cd key to the first one everytime you start the game. First start the game, ALT + Tab, then type regedit in windows search. Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Illusion Softworks\Hidden & Dangerous 2" and change the value with an other key. Go back to your game, go in multiplayer and refresh server list, then the different key is loaded.

Its tagged singleplayer for a reason. HD was running on gamespy so you can only play trough Lan now.
