Is it still broken? though I guess they only say that there's single player available so... I've been trying to find a way to play it with a friend for the past 10 years

You can still go online, just not by using gamespy as it stopped its services a few years ago. But you can download a serverlist or change your host file to connect to QTracker. go to rprclan.com to find info how to do it and last but not least: make the game widescreen and in higher resolutions!
