[BBTAG IMPROVEMENT MOD] (v1.10, updated 16/03/22)

Done some modding attempt to improve the game somewhat (mostly the performance).

WHAT THIS MOD PROVIDES
  • In-game hitbox overlay
  • In-game palette editor
  • Options to improve the performance of the game.
  • More flexibility to change the graphics options.

REQUIREMENTS
  • The game must be up-to-date

HOW TO INSTALL
  1. Download and extract the latest BBTAG_IM.zip
  2. Put dinput8.dll and settings.ini into the game's folder (where BBTAG.exe is located)
    (Should be at "..\Steam\SteamApps\common\BBTAG")
  3. Adjust the values in settings.ini as desired

UNINSTALL
Delete or rename dinput8.dll.

The mod makes no permanent changes to anything.

KNOWN ISSUES
  • The background text on the stage "Duel Field" gets scaled incorrectly
  • The regionlock is still not completely unlocked
  • "Quick switching" characters in training mode causes palettes to switch

TROUBLESHOOTING
  1. Make sure that your issue doesn't persist if you remove/rename dinput8.dll
    • If the issue still persists, then it has nothing to do with the mod.

  2. The mod's UI is very small, unreadable:
    • This happens if you run the game in windowed or full-window mode with a resolution that's higher than what your monitor supports. Try changing your display setting to fullscreen, or lowering the resolution ingame.

  3. Blackscreen problem:
    • Make sure that RenderingWidth and RenderingHeight values in the .ini file are correctly set to the resolution of your game. If their values are higher than your monitor's native resolution, then you will get blackscreen.

  4. If you just bought the game and get blackscreen even without using the mod:
    • Update your drivers.

  5. Game crashes when launched:
    • Make sure that the settings.ini file is present in the game's folder.
    • Check if the problem still occurs after you remove, or rename dinput8.dll
    • Turn off tools such as MSI Afterburner, Plays.tv, or other recording softwares and overlays that manipulate D3D.
    • Make sure you are running both Steam and the game with administrator privileges, and remove any steam_appid.txt file if present in the game's directory.
    • Restore the default settings in the settings.ini file.
    • Reboot your system.

  6. The custom HUD is all over the place, not positioned properly:
    • The elements of the custom HUD needs to be positioned MANUALLY by the user with the mouse cursor (press F1 by default). The positions are saved upon exiting.
    • The elements are movable only when the BBTAG_IM mod's main window and the ingame cursor is visible (press F1 by default).
    • Recommend picking Aegis, Rachel, Yukiko, and Makoto in the training mode for adjusting the custom HUD elements.

  7. Some of the custom HUD elements have gone beyond the screen and became unrecoverable:
    • Press the "Reset custom HUD positions" button on the BBTAG_IM mod's main window to bring all the elements back onto the middle of the screen.

  8. Where are the custom palette files saved to / Where to place the downloaded custom palettes files?
    • "..\Steam\SteamApps\common\BBTAG\BBTAG_IM\Palettes\"

  9. How do I convert the custom palettes between ".impl" and ".hpl" formats?
    • Use the "IMPL-HPL-CONVERTER" tool, can be found HERE[drive.google.com]

  10. How do I set a custom palette as default so I dont have to change it each time on the menu?
    • See "palettes.ini" file in the root folder of the game ("..\Steam\SteamApps\common\BBTAG\")

Keep in mind that the mod may partially, or completely stop working whenever a new official patch of the game is released. (Though unlikely)

I dont know why , but as soon as i put the dinput8.dll inside the games .exe folder the game crashes on startup after it has checked the dlcs

Doesnt work for me somehow. Set window size and render settings to 2560 and 1440 but it doesnt apply to the game. Seems like the mod does pretty much nothing right now. Just put the files into the BBTAG Folder and changed the values.....

Edit: Windowsize works, rendersize does not :-( Small BBTAG in big window now :-/

I thought "Render Size" specifies the resolution of those in game characters, and you can only select from certain values like 720 and 1080.

Worked for me, Thanks. I usually run stuff on the side on my other 2 monitors so I play usually with borderless window to switch seemlessly. Is a fix for broderless window planned?
Seems like nobody else clarified it before, so I'll add it to make the Steam search function pick up on it, just in case:
To change colors or a color permanently, so that you don't always have to manually change the color at the start of every round during the intro, you can use the " palettes " config / .ini file that comes with the mod.
There you can set any ingame color = your custom color. The palettes file itself explains what you have to write into it.
Your opponent will see you using the ingame color that you replaced, where as you will see the selected custom color.
In game still show it as 1080 Resolution? Does the settings already changed ?
Could this mod possibly work on Under Night CL-R? Do they run off the same engine? What would I have to look at in order to maybe try to get this to work on that game? UNICLR upscales to 4K, but natively renders at 720p and it makes the polygonal backgrounds look pretty bad. I tried supersampling, but it still looks really pixelated and muddy.

Odd question but i HEAVILY doubt it given UNI is made in the Melty Blood engine and also not even the same developer.

I think they reset when you update them i could be wrong i don't use this mod anymore since i now have the GPU to handle it.
How borked would this be on linnux?
