I've played the game and saved one of the commander but when I restarted the game, everything was lost and I repeat that and again same problem, it doesn't save. Is there a solution?

Game is not saving
After I finish the very first, I get the menu that has the other 4 levels but when I "Exit" I lose the progress and the game doesn't save. I've tried restarting it but it still doesn't work.

Does anyone know how I can fix it?

It sounds like it's not reading from/writing to the mercury.ini file. Can you verify that the file exists? It should be in the same folder as ProjectMercury.exe.

The file mercury.ini isn't in the folder, I've tried to verify the game folders but it hasn't changed and I reinstalled the game from the beginning, still nothing. Do you reckon there would be something that could be done to fix that issue?

EDIT: I asked a friend to download the game and he had the file, he sent it to me and it still didn't work

It sounds like Windows or some kind of antivirus isn't playing nice. The game has to be able to read/write that file. By design, it is supposed to create the mercury.ini file if it does not exist.

Try running ProjectMercury.exe as an administrator. Make sure you have Steam running to get achievements.

I'll try that in 12 hours from now, I'll edit this comment to update you.

EDIT: So I run the game as an administrator after I'd removed the file that my friend had sent me and the game did not save. I added the file again and did the same thing and still not working

Try moving ProjectMercury.exe to a location outside of the Program Files folder. If that doesn't work, check and see if your antivirus is messing with it.

Please let us know if going in that direction changes anything. If not, we'll try to cook up a solution.

Of course, I'll let you know

I've tried installing it in two different partitions and the file mercury.ini still wasn't there. The antivirus didn't show any threats or anything related to the game, I disabled it and the file was still missing

Any other solutions?

Sorry about the delayed response.

I have successfully recreated your problem.

Right click the folder you have the game in, click properties, and go over the the security tab. Select the group or user name that applies to you. Verify that the Write permission is enabled.

I've enabled it and tried to verify the game files and the file mercury.ini was still missing, I tried to play and the game wasn't saved. I tried readding the file mercury.ini that I received from a friend and made sure to enable the Write permission and still not saving

Okay, another way that I have recreated the problem is by placing ProjectMercury.exe in a folder that is named with a non-Latin script (Cyrillic, Asian scripts, etc.)

If this is the case for you, place the game in a spot like C:\Mercury. This is not ideal, but it should solve the problem.

Alright so I did try to do that and at first it didn't work then I changed the Modify and Write permissions again and it worked this time. I tried to do it again in the original folder(it had non Latin script) and the game didn't save as you said so I've tried the older folder I've tried about a week ago when we talked and it now works fine. Thank you for your time and care, I really appreciate your help on making it work
