Well, as nice as it is to have someone's amateur work for free to play, there is only so much of lacking presentation that I can take. I mean, it's kinda not much, very light physics, kinda easy, can't die despite taking damage, short.

But good lord, save me from that short looping non-stop theme.

Also, 3D platforming without direct shadow underneath char. (Ah, dev said that they fixed it, so I guess this part is fine)

Always hated games that just give you a "game over" screen when you finally finish them. This had the potential to be a good platformer, except it was missing, well, everything needed to be a good platformer. The game glitched out twice and allowed me to fly, which let me bypass the last section of the final area. Needs more music, and the sound effect that played when you collect an atom felt like the developer was mocking me for playing his game.

Splat the Blob is a simple low poly 3D platformer where you guide a blob through a number of colourful platformer stages.

The game "works" and you can change the resolution, but you don't get much in the way of graphics tweaks. There's two main problems that prevent me from recommending this one. The low poly art is really a let down and below what PC gamers should reasonably expect from a game from 2017, the Unity engine the game was made with is certainly capable of better. It's unclear why low poly "art" was used instead of contemporary, high quality visuals, possibly lack of budget or talent. Either way, it's visually underwhelming.

The other problem is that the controls are bad... camera and movement are decoupled, so you need to wrestle with the controls as well as pointing the camera where it needs to go. This problem is compounded by very high mouse sensitivity, so the camera will swing around wildly at the slightest movement of the mouse. For all games, especially platformers, getting the "feeling" of the control handling is absolutely crucial, but the ball has been dropped here.

One note is that despite this just being a somewhat mediocre game, there's a number of satirical, sarcastic joke reviews that I don't think the game deserves. It's not like it's laughably bad here, it's just not very good. Regardless, the positive rating for the game should be disregarded, due to these insincere joke reviews.

The game is completely free. Nothing speaks more to a developers belief in themselves and their product than making their game available for everyone without remuneration. This is certainly a gesture that shows dedication to the gaming industry. It's a shame in this case that the implementation is below the minimum standards a dedicated PC game should offer to enthusiasts. There's no "maybe" option in Steam, unfortunately, but I hope to see more work from this developer, perhaps as part of a professional game development company that can make full use of their talents without needing to make budget/quality compromises.
