Excited to the point a reminder has been set for the event. Really hoping for an alter to sacrifice the dog and free its tortured soul... wait... I got that muddled up - The doggo tortures my soul and I expect it to sacrifice my run to make a human skin, alter shaped dog house.
Sorry for your loss
So I tried this today (Oct 30th) and started a new game in New Lands on Steam, and got to the second island, and met my first greed on the first night there, and there was no pumpkin head. Also noticed no unusual graphics except something on the first island that may have been a bug (a paid vagrant looked ghost-like white), especially since it's not supposed to start until the second island. How/when do we get this event to work exactly? Has anyone else gotten any Halloween themed stuff in their game?
EDIT: OK, I just encountered a horse that I'm pretty sure wasn't in the original game, so I think maybe it worked afterall.
EDIT2: Yes, it definitely worked. Sorry, I wouldn't be so concerned if we had more than 3 days to do this during a very busy period on week-days where I have little time to play games. Special events spanning a weekend are generally a good idea to accommodate more people.
Thanks for the response, although it's too late since I already bought it on Steam to take advantage of the sale that ended right before the event started. At least it was a good price.
Ah, it was only for 2 days, not 3. I was playing tonight (Halloween night) and after midnight I noticed the special event graphics disappeared. So, October 30 - November 1 really meant October 30 - 31. Well, I'm glad I got to experience it for a bit, although I don't know if I missed anything cool that would have appeared in the later days/islands. I would have rushed more if I knew it ended yesterday and not today.
ETA: I guess one good(?) thing that playing New Lands again for this event has made me realize is how much better the game-play is in Two Crowns vs. that version. There are some very infuriating mechanics in this older game, such as archers walking a tiny distance from the walls to hunt (so they make very little-to-no coins in many situations), and the excruciatingly slow movement of the boat and hired vagrants, making them easy prey for the greed. Also, the fact that the only troops that will retreat to a previous wall after one has been destroyed are the knights and the archers attached to them, guaranteeing that every single other citizen will be reduced to a vagrant in an instant, and the city will be left with no defenses, just because one wall fell.... I was enjoying it at first since the game had to be played with a different strategy to succeed, but after awhile it just got annoying, since after the first couple islands the difficulty is ramped up enough (and the trader no longer exists, so it is even harder to make coins with the inefficient archers and expensive and slow farmers) that the design choices in this version were far less fun than the newer ones. I guess it was made this way to make it more challenging, which I appreciate, but after being jaded by the later games, this is my reaction... even though I played New Lands before Two Crowns existed and enjoyed it at the time. Different perspectives based on experience.
Edit2: Wow, and buggy... just now it said "saving" in the corner for a couple in-game days, which I ignored, and then I went to actually "quit and save" and nothing happened after trying several times. I had to force the game to close... now i'm sure I lost all that progress. That's the worst of many bugs I saw. Not the best version to show-case as the only one with a special holiday event. No wonder the forums for New Lands is a desert.
Sorry you experienced some bugs. New Lands hasn't received any updates and support for a long while now as the team have been focused on Two Crowns and Eighties.
