How do you set up your teleporters?
For reference, a "teleporter" is the stargate-looking thing we can build over the ruins of destroyed Greed portals and use for fast-travel. I've always had trouble making decent use of those, since I could never remember which goes where. Consequently, I ended up never using them and just walking everywhere - slow, tedious and doing things wrong. I'm curious to know how other people use those, largely looking for ideas I can use :)

To get the ball rolling - I did recently come up with what feels like a decent system, largely by imposing a series of limitations on where and how I can build them. Here are a few ground rules:

  • Always make two-way teleporters. Never leave them one-way.
  • Build teleporters in the order in which portals are destroyed
  • Always build teleporters towards the keep. Start from a portal ruin, move towards the keep.
  • Never switch sides. If a teleporter could reach past the keep, don't. Put it as close to the keep as possible, on the same side.
  • Never go past another teleporter. If one teleporter could extend past another teleporter, stop. Place the new teleporter as close as possible to the existing one, on the far side.
  • Don't build teleporters if they can't cover a long distance, as per the above rules. If Greed portals are too close, leave some of them destroyed.
  • The dock portal is an exception. Build a one-way teleporter there regardless, for use when returning to the island.

These seem like a lot of rules, but they're actually fairly simple to follow because. Just chain teleporters and don't cross them over. This effectively divides the kingdom into smaller regions which can be reached near-instantly by just jumping through a few teleporters. Because teleporters are placed back-to-back, the monarch need only walk a few steps to start the next segment, meaning the whole kingdom can be traversed for a fairly low coin cost.

Also because teleporters don't cross over, it's always clear which direction they go in. If two teleporters stand side-by-side, the left one goes left and the right one goes right. The teleporter on the right of the keep goes right, the teleporter on the left of the keep goes left. There's no need to memorise the layout because it doesn't change (if I do it right). As long as I remember the very simply core rules, I can use it without thinking.

About the only thing I need to remember is exactly where important locations (i.e. Vagrant Camps) are - specifically, in which segment they are. In the current Live version of the game, though, there actually aren't all that many segments. See, "larger" islands aren't all that much larger than smaller ones. They have more portals, but those portals are usually just jammed closer together. On Island 5, for instance, I tend to skip every other portal because there's not enough space between them. That gives me 3 segments per side, which isn't that hard to remember.

But that's just me :) What do you guys think? How do you set up your teleporters? I'm curious, since they're one of the few things in the game that we can free-place.

Use portal freely, and wait to you be al sure u pick the best spot
to set up a permanent build portal :wnk_portal:
1. close - to farmers for coin harvesting
2. close - home base for equip workers/archers with with tools
And finaly set em in a system, so u get from one end to the other , pretty instant :atorb_goose:

How do you manage all three of those? You only get to choose one end of the portal, so placing it near farms, for instance, precludes placing it near other portals for faster travel (like in your screenshot). If I had control of both ends, I'd ideally like to put the portal pairs near important landmarks. As it stands, I'm more or less restricted in placing portals next to each other, and whatever else might happen to be there.

Now you're making me curious :)
At the moment i'm super curius
on what carnage we gona meet in/on island 6 - Norse lands next week :kingshead:

...and when you go back to an island (say from 4 to 1) after enough time I suppose passes...then ALL of your teleportals save the one by the lighthouse is GONE...

Im having to completely run half the map now - :steamfacepalm:

what? once they are built, portals do not ever disappear, no matter how much time has passed. maybe you forgot which islands you built the portals on.
