Online multiplayer Isn't working for me and friend

I recently just bought the game and I have tried to play it with my friend over steam but every time I invite him to my world he loads for a couple minutes but doesn't actually join, just goes back to his world. I am 99% sure it isn't a connection problem because we both play other games just fine with each other. If anyone has any idea about whats happening please comment.
