How to deal with the snake in front of the Trojan Horse?

I have been trying for a while to not be a ♥♥♥♥♥ that asks this questions, but I cannot see a way to deafeat it. I seend al my troops forward but they cant attack it and in 10 seconds they are all defeated, What am I missing?

try attacking the body first. it appears as a lump in the water. you can give two coins for your troops(one ship for two coins, up to four) to attack it, then the beast will be weakened.

Get a few extra builders, knights, and slingers; then order them to attack the vulnerable coil of the serpent that has emerged from the water. The injury will stun the snake briefly and you can move to attack its head. I STRONGLY advise immediately pushing forward afterwards to secure more of the island - you'll need to repeat this process several times to get the last components for the Trojan Horse that await further on, and there are more portals beyond, so you'd best get started now before the Greed waves get stupidly strong.

I dunno if my game is bugged, but pushing forward afterward to take the portals is extremely frustrating because after beating the snake ALL of my armies retreat except one boat and my spearmen.

Going back to send them out again is not an option because by that time the snake will be back. I'm really hoping this is a bug and not by design. What is the point of having a big army if you can't even use them?

I cant attack the bit in the water, it just comes up with a boat image and the 2 coin slots are crossed out. I have my full fleet with me
