How many save slots?
I've been reading comments how there are only 3 save slots and not enough to have one for each campaign if you included the DLC. Is this still the case, or have they increased save slots?

Unfortunately they have not included more save slots. It's such a reasonable demand that I'd like to think they will add this as of the next big update they're planning to launch later this year—the Greed DLC—but devs have not said anything positive in that regard until now.

If they release the 5th campaign while leaving us with only the same 3 save slots, this will only increase the disappointment of those who were already unsatisfied with that 1 campaign they could not keep saved.

That is such a shame, something that has been requested LONG ago has still not been implemented, knowing that it is a major QoL and easy to push feature.
Detours me from purchasing this, knowing I'd like to delete campaign saves to for new ones.

They said it was due to technical limitations, they might add it later on, probably a something to do with the Unity Game Engine, it must have broke something when they tried to add it.

I have personally worked on the Unity Game Engine myself, and don't see such a "technical limitation" - this seems like a generic excuse that most developers use.

Okay, personally, I think the reason behind not adding more save slots is because adding more save slots would be like baking a cake and then trying to change the dough without damaging the cream on it, which is pretty much impossible, I personally don't know much about game development but this is just what I think is the reason behind, and also, I just looked at the Wiki again and it says technical limitations in the implementation meaning that the technical limitation is not due to the game engine. And I apologize for not wording it correctly earlier.

IMO, the said "technical limitations" is that they have designed the UI to show all 3 slots on the same screen without scrolling, and each slot enclosed on highly elaborated frames with crests related to their respective biomes.

They could:
  1. Simplify the frames a bit and add 1 more save slot on the right, but that would only satisfy users that have only 1 premium DLC, and infuriate those who own 2.
  2. Brutally simplify the frames to add 2 to 3 extra slots, still on the same screen without scrolling.
  3. Just keep the beautiful frames as they are, add more slots with an horizontal scrolling, similar to when we're creating a new campaign.

They'd also have to decide if players with no premium DLC would have access to the extra slots or not. If not, on options 1 and 2, they'd have to decide if players with premium DLCs would have "uglier" frames on save slots.

On option 2 they'd have to decice how many save slots would be better. The number of existing settings? Or the number of settings the player have access? Would that increase at each new released/acquired setting? On option 3 they'd have to decide if it's a limited amount or not.

IMO, "technical limitations" here mean that they're not able to decide how to change the UI while keeping it beautiful and minimalistic, and without creating even further negative expectations from certain groups of players.

If not that, maybe it's related to the "merging saves bug":

i mean, the save files are LARGE, and must be compressed, and every upload+download seems to include every slot. saving is already pretty slow, and increasing the slots would likely make it directly proportionally slower.

if this is true, they could upload just one campaign at a time, but that would require some work, so its probably not as trivial a change as some folks think

My saves folder has less than 2 MB. Is this considered large when talking about cloud sync? (I really don't know.)

Regardless, they should've detached the campaign saves long ago, when the first "merging saves bug" appeared.

Even if there was no bugs there, just for the purpose of having more save slots, the effort would be 100% worth, as that'd add a great value to the game.

And if the change could also bring the benefit of lighter/faster savings, even better!

"My saves folder has less than 2 MB. Is this considered large when talking about cloud sync? (I really don't know.)" - this is considered standard, and some "documents" in the office environment can easily be this size.
Secondly, regarding the cloud, there are "edge locations" around the world making it easier (latency wise) for people to connect to.
The cloud is modern and big, and 2MB is nothing.
