Dog Disappeared For no reason. Is this a bug?

I was on the fourth island and had just destroyed the cliff portal. My dog was never kidnapped by the greed and was still with me before AND after i destroyed the cliff portal.(I made it out of the cliff portal successfully without losing my crown and the dog was still present). I had already built the ship earlier so i got inside and travelled to the first island. When i got there the dog had simply disappeared and was nowhere to be seen. I even went back to the fourth island after i was done destroying all the portals on the first island hoping that might get him to reappear but he was still gone. Is this a bug and the dog is just permanently gone from the rest of my campaign unless i lose my crown and get him from the second island again? I'm playing on the shogun setting if that matters.

Same issue, same island. Dog was with me on island 4 and didn't arrive on island 5. Playing Shogun.
