you must use the bomb on both sides on the same day. this sounds harder than it is. i am pretty sure time isnt passing while you fight inside the cave.
initially I did not notice the cliffs portals, I noticed the sea side portals and I am so used at them being the last that I though they implemented a new mechanic and did not look further, until I found myself attacking both portals at the same time with a bomb and dealing with a retaliation wave ...
I destroyed each portal right after a blood moon when the new day text was blue, but I rather doubt that was part of the requirements.
I beat each cliff portal after the blood moon, and it was easy since nothing got in the way of my march to the cliff portal.
Overall it was fun but I did not feel it as a challenge. Portals were a bit harder due to spawning but that's it. Plus, the island was very generous due to not vagrant camp being near the base and the bakery available very quickly.
I did really enjoy the fact that the base camp was not initially visible, due to it being buried in the forest, but it also greatly simplified the start by allowing to make a lot of money very quickly.
For now, this is a daily lost island, and if it were made more difficult, many people wouldn't be able to play it all the way through.
New players or old players should have a decent chance of beating this within 24 hours. Considering the play time many working/schooling folks have - possibly with families, 40 days is pushing it for the time they can invest in a single game.
If it were more difficult, many people wouldn't be able to beat it in the given time limit, and that'll make people angry/depressed/upset, which is the very opposite a game should do.
There's the campaign for that.
For the time limit, I thought it was 72 hours, I was surprised when I launched the game this morning to find out I had 9 hours.
