Shields
I like shields, I think they are a cool defensive option for retreating units. What I don't like, shields are required for archers to join knights. At first it was just, this is knight squads with an extra step added for some reason. Now my current game is in a position where I realized, this is knight squads with an extra RNG step added for some damn reason. You can't control what buildings spawn, I can't get a shield building to spawn, and I can't expand any further. So I now either need to restart, or have the greed get strong enough to breach my walls so buildings can despawn. I feel like this is a possibly uncommon occurrence but a huge design flaw.

No, that is on the current island I'm on past a greed portal.
yes me tip then is,, that / those portals, is mostly deactive early morning
soo it shouldent be to mutch stress and i think u then form a permanent squad shielded
as when u coin slot's on they statue
u arches come running 1 by one to pick u they shields u see there
just make sure u go add that final1 coin after / later

*and i dont think u need any GEMs
mayby bring u TOR's hammer with u ;D to kill of some animals,, while u waiting
( if u got time ) and want to guard and overwatch it happening

I got it, cool ability. While I can probably take a greed portal down with it, I still stand by the shields being a huge design flaw.

get cash/coins flow ,, i try max out they shield craft stands bouth side
to evryone workers and archers got one ,,, and it be more easy to maintain
and u camp be alot safer
after heavy attack try do that again if it possible */ but time is money/coins ;D

The building for shield, berserker and farmer and other using this mechanic does not spawn based on RNG.
They need at leat 2 wall on a single side, and there need to have enouth space for the building to be placed.
The building for shield need enouth space close to your exterior wall, and the one for berzerker need to be close to your interior wall.

How can you say they are not RNG when I've seen 3 different buildings pop up in the same spot after greed attacks destroy a wall without me expanding any further. This is the same for even base Kingdom.

This is because you dont have enouth space, so the game try to place all the building each time. And if a diferent one is placed each time it only mean that the dev did not add a rule to say wich building take priority.
It is not rng. it's random if you dont have enouth space. clear some tree and you'll get all building.

Are you daft? "It's not rng. It's random if you don't have enough space." You basically just said it's rng until it isn't. Did you even read my original post? The whole issue is I expanded as far as I could and didn't get the building I needed to progress because the island generated in just the right way that blocked a lot of early building spots. I only lucked out since it happened on the fourth island, which as fathermocker informed me, had an item that allowed me to circumvent the issue.

I love this expansion, I like all the changes to gameplay in this, but this is a pretty big flaw in the design. Even if this is a 1 in 100 occurrence, this shouldn't be a thing that can occur in the first place. That building needs a hard spawn point or something.
sometimes it popp up as the first *maybe because i got build more on other side camp
where it normaly be that farmer scythe spot opens first...
but basicly, it be build close the frontline, as u expand
and,, if any that shield crafter spot isent an issue
getting income from plenty farmers bouth sides and u easy have..
a full load shield ready more or less all the time

and
even if there dence forest etc. *harder to expand - well thats a part of the challenge -
like almost evry island can be with a challenge on stretch out u empire
= good to know when next red moon arrives ;D

I give up, you guys are clearly missing the issue here. It baffles me when I say I expanded almost up to the greed portals, and I can't physically go any further, the solution you guys tell me is to just expand further. Am I supposed to just build past the greed portals without destroying them? Is this what it means, TO GO EVEN FURTHER BEYOND! Imma go scream for 3 episodes while I speed run a new file.

I do want to add Fathermocker, thank you for pointing that upgrade out. It did get me past that hurdle, but I restarted anyways due to how much time I had wasted. Greed were getting nuts and I was moving way too slow, it was a dead run anyways.

RNG : random number generation, it mean that the dev added a mechanic that chose the building randomly. They did not.
They didnt add rule for the order building spawn.... that is if they randomely spawn in your game. Cose in my undread hour i always saw the building spawn in order or importance.

Dont be dumb if you want to insult other.

And if you dont have any space then make some.

On all island the portal are mad to never spawn too close to your castle. So it's only you that dont get what to do, the probleme dont come from the game.

yes evryone somewhat plays it all bit diffrent on most aspect / tactics
YW and good luck on u next turn regain make u empire grow to the other end
and then end up in Vallhalla amongst all the other GODs

*and yes i got it now,,, u was a bit in stress there :D

Then you were lucky. I also get them spawning randomly. I've even had wall upgrading cause old buildings to be replaced with different ones I don't want (RIP scythe shop).

This is factually untrue. Maybe you haven't been reading around this forum, but there are multiple people posting about how Norse Lands islands especially can be so small that the portal blocks expansion as soon as you get out of the castle.

Edit: Also, if a thing happens randomly, what do you think determines it if not a random number generator? Everything in a game happens because somebody programmed it to be one way or another.
