Editing save files

Hello! Does anyone know if editing save files or rolling back to an earlier save file is possible? I am almost done with the game and I just made a terrible mistake by running back to the 1st island which has no builders or vagrant camps which means that I am stuck there forever. I really wouldn't want to replay all of my progress from scratch.

This guy did the same mistake last year. And I don't think they found a "solution", other than restarting. It should be very possible though to reload from a previous state, if you had a backup of your saves. But now? Unless someone guides you into editing, which I'm not able to.

editing the save file is easy, but is cheating. (just find 'global-v35' save file, and edit "currentLand":0 to "currentLand":4. and backup the whole save dir first)

OR, instead of cheating, savor the poignant regret of beautiful mistakes, and restart the campaign.
