What do the different levels of lighthouse do?

You can make lighthouses of wood, stone, or iron. But what's different about each level?

fully upgrade lighthouse ,, make it safe for u boat ,, to then visit that island again without the need to rebuild a boat ,, some coins and it ready sail again..



i think, it's only 1 upgrade that do something = full upgrade :D

There are multiple levels of upgrade, but my understanding is that they are merely a way to prevent your lighthouse from degrading while you're away. While a level 1 lighthouse might fall apart while you're gone, leaving you with a crashed ship upon return, higher level lighthouses last longer while you're away.
