So even if I do defeat all portals, that still means that once the portals are done then nothing else will come. By this point in the first two games we'd be seeing waves with breeders and flyers, but by day 73, one breeder and 2 flyer. There has been 0 threat.
And land 1 was like a tutorial island, not a single blood moon or even a broken down wall.
I remmeber getting wrecked on land 1 in Kingdom original cause it kept escalating, but that isn't happening here.
I do feel like there's a huge gap between normal waves and retaliation waves, on Island 4 when I destroy a portal I get actual big boi waves with breeders and all which put my tech 3 caste to the test. But the normal waves are like 20 small greeds on foot they barely even make it to a wall.
I think the problem is they don't want to make the normal waves ramp up too fast because since Two Crowns is a campaign you're supposed to be able to complete it sort of at your own pace as long as you survive. If they make waves ramp up faster, then the game starts having a time limit like New Lands did where if you don't complete the campaign fast enough and progress through the islands at the right pace, it can throw your whole game.
Now it's debatable whether that's a good thing or not, I'm an experienced played by now so i'm biased but I do agree they could make it slightly harder. But I haven't even destroyed one cliff portal yet so I don't wanna say "yeah this is too easy" then start on the actual objective of the game and end up being like "ok nevermind this is hardcore". :D
if you can manage to defend Island 5 before day 100 you have good chances to win the game.
Also, playing the game with 2 players is way easier than when you play alone.
You get more gold, can watch both sides and you can take care for both sides.
When you play alone and you expand, you just can do it on one side, because you need a strong wall, so 1 extra day for everytime you expand out have to protect the side.
So you wouldn't be at day 73 at this progress rate, more at day 100+.
Maybe.
For instance, recently i just finished 2 islands' cliff portals by day 50, so at island 3 it was already winter and I got my ass handed to me by the greed.
I haven't tried Shogun yet, so I can't speak on that one, but does that mean that blood moons only come from destroying portals now?
I don't like the retalitory blood moons because it just lets you sit back and prepare without any pressure or fear of escalation.
I loved the pressure the game kept on you in the first two, which I am a huge fan of. I especially was looking forward to this and sharing with my friend. He has been pretty disappointed however.
Maybe I don't understand these new changes or something is bugged as we know there are lots of those at the moment, but in my opinion the game has felt off from the other two.
Maybe as an option offer an alternative gameplay that's not this new "campaign style", that is similar to the first two games that we all fell in love with, back to time ramping up.
Just a thought anyway. I love the series, and my criticisms here are because I want to see the game continue to grow and improve.
And i think improvement makes more fun than just losing, humans just get frustrated when they only losing
And yes, the game is harder when you play Samurai or alone and if you do both, i think its getting harder too.
Some things why Samurai is harder:
You need more time to cut down landscapes in Samurai
+ you need more time when you do it alone on both sides
Your Knights only can held 3 gold, not 5 like the knights and they block less attacks.
You don't have the speer guys to get Gold in Winter (at least they got cool Ninjas)
And playing Alone
-less gold, mutiple reasons
-harder pushing
-base building gets more time consuming and risky
-you can only held one good mount
-if you carry gems, they take much space that you can't store
-no double full gold bags on a new Island
and even more reasons i didn't counted here
I played alone with Samurais, alone with knights, and togehter with Samurais.
And i can tell you, the early is not that hard in both, but managing to destoy all 5 Portals is a challange alone.
I also said I was working on the land 4 portal with the bomb. 1-3 done. Which still doesn't change what I've criticised.
