spear shop gone, replaced by catapults, how to get spears again?!

I came back to my island and rebuilt the walls.

But instead of having a scythe shop for farmers and a spear shop for spearmen, now I have two catapult shops?

Are the shops we build randomly generated? How can I get my spearmen back!?

A game with no instructions where we have to stumble blindly through the mechanics is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying.
