the archer statue - makes you archers almost always hit
the builders statue - makes your walls stronger
the ballista hermit - allows you to upgrade triple archer towers into powerful ballistas for taking on floaters and breeders
optional:
the baker hermit - allows you to upgrade triple archer towers into bakeries, that you can pay to attract vagrants from distant camps
the farmer statue - makes your farms produce gold much faster
if you have all these upgrades it shouldnt be too hard, make sure you expand enough so that you can make pikemen/ninja and catapults, and trains LOADS of archers
hope this helps :D
Apart from that camps are WAY WAAAAAAAY out of reach, and it's impossible to make money.
personally, i only break the cave portals so i can get the bomb in and never break the dock side portals unless i really have to, it keeps the overall swarm low(ish)
as for the far away camps, thats kinda the entire reason for the baker, it lures them to you instead of having to go out and recruit yourself
(try making a farm and build a baker on the closest tower spot, you can use that farm to pay for all the bread)
-do islands: 1 => 2 => 1 (archer) => 3 => 4 => 5 => 1 => 2 => 3
-break NO portals until island 4, then destroy ONLY cave side portals
Is the best tactic really to rush to Land 5 and work your way down then?
I did beat Dead Lands now, it seems if you die the waves starts from scratch again.
Only expand your walls to areas where there are two dirt mounds close to each other so you get two walls before your army has to start falling back. Most double walls also include a rock to build a tower, which you can upgrade to a ballista. Don't forget to clear a nice open area in front of your wall for a hunting ground for easy money.
Only buy 1-2 fire barrels for your catapults at a time, the rocks are key for murdering the giants.
The only real "counter" for the flyers is to have a sh*tload of archers, so do that asap.
Take out the dock first so you don't need to worry about minding two sides, or guessing which side a blood moon is coming from. Once you're only dealing with one side and have a double wall with a ballista tower and the fire breath, even island 5 is easy mode. I beat it without knowing about the portal destruction mechanic mentioned above (I had all 4 other islands completely cleared), and still beat it without much trouble once I got the dock taken down.
Don't forget to upgrade the regular soldiers to knights by upgrading the town center all the way along with your outer walls. The knights can be powered up with coins.
Good luck!
Edit: Also if you lose, you have to go to each island and activate all the statues, mounts, etc again. Don't know what they were thinking here because it's just pointlessly tedious if the other islands are conquered, but it is what it is. You will need the statues for island 5.
