Actually why not involve multi-layered levels? As in split paths?
You are in your village and pay enough coin to have workers strip away vines from a cliffside in the background to reveal hidden ruins that lead to a deep jungle where new foes and treasure await. Of course you can choose to simply ignore the foreboding ruins and continue into the forest.
Or an ascent that up a mountain path with other events such as possible avalanches or mini-boss fight with dragon at the peak of the summit?
Would like choice of more traps or defenses as well.
With maybe mythological beast to fight on the map or in caves for rewards like artefacts or equipements with various effects for improving one knight/archer (just an idea. Don't necesseraly correspond to the actual concept of the game, but add another layer)
Or maybe something totally different, more SF, futuristic for both sides, kingdom and greeds .
Greece
I think it would be very cool to go to Greece, there could be Hoplites as knights, imagine the styles of the classic Greek temples integrated into the main castle and maybe the unique unit could be some sort of torch bearer who walks up to some archers (two or three at most) and "recruits" them like knights do but instead of protecting them he makes it so they can have fire arrows (for the cost of reload time) that set greed on fire. I think it would work like this: an archer will run up to the torch bearer and set two arrows on fire then they will fire those arrows (one at a time) and run up to the torch bearer again and relight two more arrows. If an arrows misses it will set that bit of ground on fire. Another idea for Greece is a new hermit that is like Archimedes who turns a tower into an array of mirrors that reflects light onto the ground and sets the ground on fire (because it is night this will take quite a while to "power up" before firing and it will sustain its beam of light for 3 or 4 secs and then it will start recharging again). Then there would be more a defensive theme of wearing the greed down over time where in the morning the mirror thing would have its full power and fire much quicker and more powerfully.
Then there could be a mount like a Pegasus from the old myth that can fly above greed if they get a bit to close and then get to the walls from the skies.
Rome
Having roman themed trees and especially knights and castles would look amazing! Imagine the classic tower shields that knights wield and maybe even spears as a new tool for people to throw! There could be a hermit that turns a tower into a mercenary hut or something where you can hire (not many and it would be costly) other unique units from different biomes like pikemen, ninja or torch bearers. As for a mount they could have a wolf mount that works just like the bear but faster and with more stamina but its attack isn't AoE or just isn't as powerful. If not a spear a unique tool could be like a centurion helmet that hires a bunch of civs (like 5 or 6) and waits for the greed to come close to the walls and then charge into them with their weaker masses of melle legionaires armed with little daggers or gladius.
Egyptian
]Imagine the beauty of a desert landscape with trees of Oasises and the harsh yellows and browns with the blues and greens! Or the wonderful looking egyptian designs for the keep! Then for a mount there could be a sphinx which should be slow with a medium amount of stamina but its special ability forces it to stop for a moment and decreases its stamina and summons one or two mummies that can stun and kill some greed before either being hit by them once or twice and sinking back into the earth or just doing the same after a few seconds. As for the hermit I say a hermit that can turn a tower into a pyramid that will either buff the archers on their side (it would have to be the tower that is next to the archers not just any tower on that side) with faster reload or can be payed an offering each day to summon some divine intervention at night like a beam of light from the skies or some massive fist crashing into the greed masses. Unique tools could be: Kopesh warriors that will run out and jump onto breeders doing extra damage to them but risking their tools and money in the process. Chariots that will have a unique building like the catapult (or replacing the catapult??) on each side that will be manned by a khopesh warrior, builder and 3 archers. It will ride out and the archers will shoot while the khopesh warrior slices at them.
I love your idea
I agree with these themes, but I also start to ask myself if Kingdom Lore should be only limited to classic themes.
There is magic ( only limited to portals? )
There is griffins, unicorns, some kind of dragons which come from myths and legends.
Maybe humans are not the only races in this Kingdom realm.
Maybe greeds have access to other realms, if it is the case greed's realm could be used to travel between these realms.
The game still have a lot of mysterious sides in my opinion.
- Since I kind of got bored of the standart wheat farm, maybe change the looks to rice since China is the second biggest rice producing country anyway.
- The special unit can be a pyrothechnican since fireworks are extremely old and originated in China (Can either stun or maybe kill greedlings don't really mind) at the end of the season or year or after a bloodmoon he can hold a firework show for some fat stacks of cash (depending on your population) I don't even mind if he doesn't fight at all. Limit to 1 or 2.
An idea which kind off makes sense. A poacher or hunter.
Build his hut ontop of a rock/boulder in the forest 8/10 coin investment 1 archer will go and take his new profession. will track down and kill or trap deer for a 2 or 3 days then returns to your kingdom either waiting for you or give it to the banker giving you all the coins of -1 of each deer he caught/killed (upkeep/taxes/balancing what a greedy hunter.) Its not a reliable income but a invenstment since its too much effort to actually shoo all the deer to your walls without the right mount.
The hut will be destroyed if you remove the forest.
Only available after you got the banker upgrade.
Here is a joke theme. The millenial theme where the ''archers'' throw fresh memes against the haters who try to steal your majestic fedora.
Should there be a harpy island? Would give us a reason to use the ballista more. Basically there's more towers in pairs. The front assaults, and the rear defends the first.
I noticed some Egypt suggestions. Should there be a gem buried at the back of the Cliffside portal? It's been a while since I played, so I'm enjoying the updates that have occurred, but noticed the inner greed sanctum is about the same. Should the background decor be the inner pyramid? Back to the greed gem, should there be a new NPC, the tomb raider? Once you pay him, he runs to the portal and waits until dark. If he gets caught before hiding in the bushes, he can be found half dead by the portal to pick up again, but he'll go in while there is a wave and drag the gem a little further out from the back. Each day he returns for more supplies and nourishment.
Just a few immediate thoughts.
pleas incorperate my idea becous i think pepole want a new challeng island and this is perfect.(sorry for bad spelling)
This is fantastic
