I am unsure if you can live through it, but you only get three days to prepare.
Do each island have a seperate cycle, or do all islands share the season countdown?
And I just so happened to land on the third island just before winter struck, great. Oh, well. This is at least not New Lands. I can recover quickly enough.
Lighthouses enables you to keep the boat for free. Also, the bookkeeper gives you rent for the money you give him, and to top it off; the greed aggression resets on new islands. Just remember to build lighthouses and everything will be fine regardless of what happens.
If you paid the bookkeeper beforehand will you be able to generate money on your own. If not... good luck. The Greed will grow more aggressive for each passing day.
The bookkeeper is the guy that stands in the town square during the day after you have upgraded past tents.
And don't worry. Two Crowns are REALLY soft when it comes to failure. Ridiculously soft.
Edit: Except gems, oh the pain of losing gems. Two words: No Respawn.
