The Stag, and other mounts.

I'm enjoying the game a lot so far, but I have an issue with mounts in the game. More specifically that there are some useful ones, and some worthless ones, and the costs are VERY skewed.

Basic horse:
Nothing to say. It is basic, and should be left as it is.

Chubby pony:
Costs 1 gem and 3 coins, but seems marginally more useful than the default horse. However, you get it at the same time as the stag, and for the same cost, making it completely redundant. This should have something over the stag mount. Perhaps it does, but I have no idea what that is.

Stag:
Fantastic mount at 1 gem and 3 coins. I think this should be changed to only being able to eat grass in forests, and not the regular grass. This would further cement it as the best early game scout and a decent economy mount, but would make it less useful as the wild lands retreat.

Bear:
Useful for earning more gold, and slightly useful in combatting the greed, but seems overcosted at 3 gems, especially considering its low stamina. Should probably be moved to island 3.

Reptile: Great at defending against waves. Bad at everything else. Seems correctly balanced for the cost.

Griffin:
Far too cheap at only 2 gems. Should be much more expensive for what it does.

Unicorn:
Great mount for economy, but unimpressive speed and stamina. Expensive to hire, and useless in winter. This seems well balanced for its hiring cost.

Warhorse:
Ability seems powerful, but rarely needed. You get it at a point in the game where you don't need the ability, and where the stag is far superior. Should probably be moved to island 5.

bear, not just low stamina, incredably low stamina, the bear in new lands was vastly better, idk why it was nerfed to hard in 2 crowns
in new lands you could run for a good 20 second after grazing, which was enough to chase down and jump a dear, now its tired after 3 seconds and you bearly (couldnt resist a pun) manage to kill a rabbit with a single pounce before it tired and needs to graze again, what happened to being able to pounce through the fields of bunny to collect coins yourself and get 6-7 at a time before needing to rest
now your lucky to get 2 pounces without it going "nope, tired and rest needed now"
your lucky to get a bunny or 2 now before resting, never mind catching deer with it, your not going to get it if it runs, you try and it doesnt even get 3 bounds before its worn out, and then your bear is tired in the woods and you have to slowly shamble back as it take a good minute to recover without grazing
why, what happened with the bear that this is the result???

i actually went back and played new lands just to get a feel for how big a difference it is between the bears now, newlands bear is a good 4-5 times better than 2 crowns
or it can be said the 2 crowns bear has been nerfed so its now 5 times worse

the bear has gone from being one of the best mounts to have in new lands to being, personally, the worse of the lot (which doesnt help it had the same 14 coin cost as the unicorn last i checked, aware its been reduced now but i've never wanted to unlock it again to check what the new price is)
this is quite a thing for me as 80+% of my time playing new lands was spend with the bear as my main mount, i always the first i would jump on it the second i found it
the second i found the bear in 2 crowns, i went straight and got it, never have i been so disappointed in this game than that moment when i first went to ride it, i expected the same greatness of it as i did of the new lands bear, that the difference between them is so great, that the bear is so utterly ruined in comparison, was so breaking...
the bear, as it is now in 2 crowns, i will "NEVER" use it again, not even worth considering anymore to the point of wanting to forget it exsist

i'm sure anyone of you that used the bear in new lands understands...
my favourite mount of new lands doesnt exsist in 2 crowns

Beyond a doubt, it's too cheap in gems AND gold. However, to be fair, it does require a trip back to Island 1, which ALSO has the most useful statue in the game. You already need to take 6 gems back to island 1, which is a pain to manage.

Any adjustment needs to factor this in. Please don't make me play Island 1 THREE times.

they should switch it with a mount on a different land, i think it would be better placed on island 3, put the other horse or the deer to island 1 instead

I'd prefer Stag on Island 2. There is NO better way to spend your first gem than the Stag.

And I should have said "please don't make me play Island 1 FOUR times." I just counted it up, it's three trips already:

* first visit
* second visit to to unlock Archery and Griffn
* third visit to close the Cave

So adding another trip would make it four. No, I'm not willing to wait for Archery. I MUST have it as soon as I can afford it. I won't wait for the second mine upgrade.

Agree! I also used it a lot in NL. As you said, great economy and good stamina from eating grass. (Quite absurd that the bear can eat grass. Should get stamina boost from killing deer, or play a fishing animation.)

I just went like this: 1,2,3, island 4 at the start of winter. This was by accident. Barely kept my walls intact till spring came. Island 3 bakery was bugged, and one camp spawns nothing.
Then I built up iron defenses, headed to island 1, where I unlocked archery, kirin, and ballista, and then cleared the cave, before heading to 5 by day 85-ish.

I was shocked at how good the griffon is. That's probably part of the reason why no gems spawn on island 1 so that players have to make a choice on island 2 to either make do with the options on that island and progress to island 3 or potentially "waste time" not progressing by backtracking to island 1.

I dunno though I think the clear winner is backtracking considering the archer shrine is there too.

Going back to island 1 with no extra coins(but with 6 gems) from island 2 is still manageable. Since the boat costs 10 coins, shrine 10, mount 8, you can do this 'backtracking' in no time, 2-3 days max and you're off to island 3. (also prepping the castle walls for that builder shrine in island 3 really helps your previous castle walls.)

you managed to make island 4 before going back for the archery statue?!?!?!
kuddos to you, i always go back to island 1 after island 2 just to unlock that statue before going any further

On the first playthough I also went without backtracking. I simply didn't know that it's required :)
So my death on island 5 was quite quick without archer statue.

I was showing the game to a friend. I destroyed the dock portal on island 3 on day 48, and then went straight for the boat. Accidentally picked island 4 instead of island 1. It had already started to snow, so I was sure I was dead, but the income from trees kept me barely alive until spring on island 4. A couple of additional nights, and my walls would have failed.

this is SO true and SO anoyying. I mean why would they nerf it after all?? It was PERFECTLY balanced and its pros and cons where good. Now as you said you can barely use it as any sort of productivity you WANT to get out fo it is ruined by the stamina. I love this game and think the hate its getting is REALLY unwarranted but as another player who loved the bear in New Lands the way they have made it so useless has ruined the mount for me. Although now I do like the dragon probably a little more than even the New Lands bear its still so anoyying that I will never be able to bound through the fields of Two Crowns eating rabbits left and right without the help of a single archer :steamsad. Also I just wish I could get rabbits and deer with that fire from the lizard lol.
