Invulnerability means that units will take hits, but will not drop their items, and instead will just get knocked back. This is especially useful when attacking portals and your attack force happens to run into the current attack wave for the night, using the war horses invulnerability can let you wipe out the attack wave and continue attacking, or otherwise just keep the attack going without having to dump as many coins.
As a downside, the warhorse costs 14 coins to mount, and it's rather slow.
